A deranged man who harassed a Bay Area family before breaking into their home was finally arraigned in court on Monday.
The 29- or 30-year-old man (there are conflicting reports on his age), identified as Jason Thomas Nichols, went viral last week when he showed up outside a Bay Area home and began harassing the homeowner through the homeowner’s Ring front-door camera system.

Identifying himself as “Harry Dresden,” a character from the “Dresden Files” fiction novel, Nichols demanded the homeowner open the door. He also demanded to know where the homeowner’s supposed daughter was.
“Hi there, can you open this door please?” he initially asked the homeowner.
“For what?” the homeowner replied.
“Uh, I just want to make sure that everything’s okay. There seems to be something going on,” Nichols insisted.
The confused homeowner kept prying for more information, trying to figure out who exactly this guy was, when Nichols suddenly started becoming loud and belligerent.
“Open this f–king door!” he yelled at one point. “Where’s your daughter, man? Where’s your daughter, man? Where’s your daughter? Who’s in there with you? Open this f–king door. Open this door or I’m breaking it f–king down.”
The homeowner repeatedly told Nichols to get lost, but he just stood there demanding entry into a home that wasn’t his and, at one point, even threatening the homeowner’s life.
“Open the f–king door now or I will f–king end you!” he shouted. “Do you understand me? Open the f–king door! Open it! Do you f–king understand me? I will f–king kill you!”
Additional video footage shows what happened after Nichols broke into the home and the homeowner threatened him with a shovel:

As seen above, the police arrived in the nick of time, and Nichols was arrested, charged with a slew of felony charges, including burglary and vandalism, and tossed in to jail on a $35,000 bond.
During Nichols’ first hearing on Monday, Judge William J. Pendergast III raised his bond to $250,000 and set April 24 as his next court date.
According to The Reporter, Pendergast “ordered the higher bail following a plea from the Deputy District Attorney Steven Tali, who said it was the only way to ensure the safety of the victims in the neighborhood where Nichols is accused of forcing his way into a home.”
It turns out that the home he’d tried breaking into hadn’t just been occupied by the male homeowner — it’d also been occupied by a pregnant woman and her 5-year-old son. Moreover, Nichols reportedly lives just behind the home he’d targeted in his unhinged attack.
“He made threats saying ‘I’m going to kill you’ and ‘take you out,'” Tali argued in court. “Given the threats and where he lives there is not other way to safeguard the victims in this case.”
As for Nichols, he reportedly acted like a jackass in court by repeatedly rolling his eyes as if he’d done nothing wrong.
Then, when he was being escorted out of the courtroom after the completion of the hearing, he turned back toward the court and said, “Thank you all for being here.”
Many in the public are now calling for Nichols to be permanently locked up, perhaps even committed:
He should NOT be release on bail.
It’s the role of judge to weight upon that, and this case, it’s obvious that he’s a treat to the public.— Edzward (@BojackBujin) April 14, 2026
These people roam the streets. He actually got into someone’s home. He’s extremely violent. He’s a walking horror movie. How about NO BAIL?

This man needs an involuntary commitment. He is clearly very unwell and was convinced he was supposed to save someone from abuse or worse.
