A married Oklahoma judge who had relations with two of his bailiffs and committed two drive-by shootings believes he should be allowed to keep his job.
Brian Lovell, a Garfield County associate district judge, made the case for his job in legal filings last week by pointing to sex in culture, namely the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey,” the TV show “Sex and the City,” and Marvin Gaye’s lascivious songs.
“For nearly a century jurisprudence has expanded the rights of the individual to engage in private sexual conduct privately and without fear of government intrusion,” the filing reads, according to The Oklahoman. “Paralleling these developments … has been the public perception that sex is no longer the unforgivable sin that it once was.”
So his argument is that because it’s no big deal to talk openly about sex these days, it shouldn’t be a big deal for him to have relations with his bailiffs. It’s certainly one helluva argument.
Take a good look people, these are the people we choose to hold the scales of justice

The Oklahoman notes that Lovell, 59, already admitted to having relations with one bailiff way back in 2011. As for the second bailiff, he’s neither admitted nor denied anything, instead telling the court that it was private and “between consenting adults.”
“The second bailiff has described sexual encounters with the judge in the backseat of her car, in a courthouse bathroom, and in her courthouse office on a new table,” the paper notes.
“I was really proud of that table, but not for that reason,” she reportedly told investigators in March.
The state’s Court on the Judiciary has reportedly been asked by the Oklahoma Supreme Court to ax Lovell from his post because of his offenses.
“The Oklahoma Supreme Court’s chief justice filed the disciplinary request in June,” The Oklahoman notes. “Chief Justice John Kane wrote in the petition that Lovell’s conduct undermines public confidence in the judiciary.”
Lovell’s attorneys reportedly called the petition “an amalgamation of allegations … relating to setting bonds, interacting with attorneys, and sex” and complained that the petition’s objective is to humiliate their client “to the point that he will voluntarily resign.”
In fact — and this is where things take a wild turn — they have alleged that the true reason for the attempted ouster of their client is because the Oklahoma Supreme Court is embarrassed by all the scandals facing him.
“A typical criminal defendant would not have their private lives put on public display, scandalizing them, for refusing to resign their position at work,” they wrote. “However, that is precisely what is occurring here.”
“Judge Lovell is not guilty of gross neglect of duty, corruption in office, commission while in office of any offense involving moral turpitude, gross partiality in office, oppression in office, and any other grounds,” Lovell’s primary attorney, Stephen Jones, said in a statement.
What other scandals does Lovell face? Well, he evidently committed a drive-by shooting. Yes, a drive-by shooting. Back in February of 2023, Lovell allegedly shot up a home on a ranch owned by his brother-in-law.

Oh, but it gets even worse.
“It is the second time the judge has been indicted over a shooting. A grand jury in Texas in February charged him with eight felony counts of deadly conduct,” The Oklahoman notes. “He was accused in the first indictment of recklessly shooting at eight parked vehicles from his SUV while driving in Austin Sept. 11.”
The guy is evidently a horny, trigger-happy nutjob, raising the question of how he ever became a judge in the first place:
Such an entitled ASSHOLE!!
Has no business being a judge and obviously never should have been a judge!!!— John Davis (@JohnDav85551085) July 9, 2024
The good news is he hasn’t heard any cases since last September. The bad news, of course, is he still thinks he deserves to hear more cases.
The public strongly disagrees.
Look:
Is he still a judge? Because he probably shouldn’t be.

They need to arrest him and perp walk him out – right off the bench. Then reassign his docket.

JFC. This guy is a complete slime ball. I can’t believe he was in a position to pass judgement on others.
