One of two congressional Republicans who’ve vowed to impeach activist judges says it’s clear these judges are “hurting” the American people by stymying President Donald Trump’s agenda.
“You’re not just hurting the president — you’re hurting the American people because they’re the ones who elected him, and they’re the ones who want him to do this,” Rep. Andrew Clyde told Fox News. “These judges are really denying the American people their rights.”
Last week Clyde announced plans to draft articles of impeachment against U.S. District Court Judge John J. McConnell Jr., who earlier ordered the Trump administration to halt its federal spending freeze.
Rep. Eli Crane, the second Republican pursuing impeachment, announced similar plans against District Court Judge Paul Engelmayer, who was responsible for blocking the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Treasury records.

Clyde believes Trump will win both cases regardless of the ongoing impeachment efforts.
“I think the president will certainly prevail on the merits of his case — he has the authority under Article II of the Constitution,” the Republican lawmaker said.
“But yet for the entire time of the restraining order, the judge will have prevented this duly elected authority from being exercised by the president. And also, they will have prevented the American people from dealing with waste, fraud, and abuse in their government,” he added.
Impeachment must still be pursued nevertheless not only because of these judges’ foul rulings but also their liberal activism.
McConnell in particular has a history of spouting anti-Trump rhetoric, denigrating white people, promoting DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), pursuing racist hiring practices, and more.

Judge McConnell also established a Diversity, Inclusion, and Racial Justice Committee in his court.

Judge McConnell then lamented that his Court was a bad example because it was “too white.”

Clyde told Fox News that he hopes other congressional Republicans join his and Crane’s crusade to hold activist judges accountable.
“[These judges] need to understand that they’re not going to get away with it,” he said. “They can’t just stop the president from doing what the Constitution gives him the authority to do, and the people have given him the authority to do.”
Clyde and Crane started drafting articles of impeachment after DOGE boss Elon Musk cried foul over Engelmayer’s ruling.
“A corrupt judge protecting corruption. He needs to be impeached NOW!” Musk tweeted on Feb. 9th.

Engelmayer had a day earlier issued an order prohibiting “all political appointees, special government employees, and government employees detailed from an agency outside the Treasury Department” from accessing the data at the Treasury Department.
That decision came after a suit led by New York Attorney General Letitia James against President Trump, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and the Treasury Department was filed.
“President Trump does not have the power to give away Americans’ private information to anyone he chooses, and he cannot cut federal payments approved by Congress,” James said in a statement. “Musk and DOGE have no authority to access Americans’ private information and some of our country’s most sensitive data.”
The suit claimed that the Trump administration had “illegally” provided DOGE access to the Treasury Department’s central processing system, which contains the sensitive personal information of millions of Americans.
“With this lawsuit, Attorney General James and the coalition of attorneys general are seeking to stop the Trump administration’s new policy that illegally grants DOGE, Musk, and others access to Americans’ confidential information and the U.S. Treasury’s payment systems,” a press release from James’ office read.
“This expanded access could allow Musk and his team to block federal funds to states and programs providing health care, childcare, and other critical services,” it continued.
