As crime skyrockets in Oakland, the only In-N-Out Burger franchise there has decided to call it quits because it is too dangerous for employees and customers.
The beloved burger outlet made the announcement on Sunday after a string of attacks have taken place jeopardizing their customers and those who work for them.
“Annual crime statistics released by the Oakland Police Department show that robberies in the area jumped 38% between 2022 and 2023, while burglaries increased by 23%, according to a report from The Mercury News. The location that is closing is only a couple of miles away from Oakland International Airport,” the Daily Wire reported.
“Despite taking repeated steps to create safer conditions, our Customers and Associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies,” Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick said in a statement.

“The fast-food chain counts a total of 286 restaurants in the states of California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and Texas. It said it has taken the decision to close the Oakland store, despite several measures to make the restaurants safer for staff members and patrons,” Newsweek reported.
The crime rate was so bad at the fast-food restaurant that security guards claimed they were taking more theft reports there than anywhere else they patrolled, according to the Daily Wire. They said they saw five break-ins at In-N-Out Burder on a “regular” day.
The restaurant will close up shop on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
“We are grateful for the local community, which has supported us for over 18 years, and we recognize that this closure negatively impacts our Associates and their families,” Warnick sadly commented in his announcement. “Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and well-being of our Customers and Associates – we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment.”

He went on to say that the company will try and transfer employees to other locations but if they can’t, they will offer them a severance package.
“In-N-Out Burger has a history of supporting the Oakland community through charitable giving that predates the opening of our location there,” the company statement concluded. “Although we will no longer do business there, we will continue to support local charitable organizations in Oakland through our In-N-Out Burger Foundation and Slave 2 Nothing Foundation.”
Crime rates have skyrocketed since the pandemic in Oakland. The city’s branch of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) wrote a letter to city leaders last July begging them to handle “our intolerable public safety crisis that overwhelmingly impacts minority communities.”
The letter detailed “murders, shootings, violent armed robberies, home invasions, car break-ins, sideshows, and highway shootouts” that have become “a pervasive fixture of life in Oakland.”

According to Newsweek, “The California city has a crime rate of 81 per 1,000 residents, with residents having 1 in 12 chances of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime. Oakland’s crime rates are higher than most other communities in California.”
Given the third-world status of several of California’s largest cities, that’s quite an accomplishment.
“The chance of becoming a victim of a violent crime in Oakland is 1 in 65, while, in California as a whole, it is 1 in 200. The latest data, updated to 2022, says that the city counted 121 murders, 331 cases of rapes, 2,772 robberies, and 3,355 cases of assault in that year,” Newsweek noted.
