A southern California school district notified parents that two bus routes were interrupted after attempted boardings by illegal aliens while they were on the way to school this week.
The incidents, which some have described as attempted hijackings, occurred on the A and B bus routes for the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District in San Diego County.
Families were informed by Superintendent Liz Bystedt who in an emailed notice dated August 28 wrote, “Earlier today I notified transportation families about two recent incidents involving our school buses on Highway 94. Both incidents involved people either trying to stop or board a bus at a bus stop.”

“It’s just scary that these kids are put into this situation,” Cardinale said. “If those 20 people would have gotten on to the bus and tried to take over the bus, these kids and the bus driver could have been in real danger.”
“The first incident occurred along the Route A route near the intersection of Highway 94 and Cochera Via Tuesday afternoon. According to Bystedt, a group of three men were walking in the middle of the highway trying to stop one of the buses, prompting it to ‘go around. the group,” KUSI reported.
“A Route B school bus Wednesday morning came upon a group of about 20 people as it was picking students up from the same stop, Bystedt said. Parents present at the site helped the bus driver ensure students were safe and that no one boarded the bus,” according to the outlet.
It’s unclear whether the two groups were connected. There were no injuries to students, staff, or the illegals reported.
“Twenty illegal migrants tried to get on the bus today at one of our bus stops,” Nicole Cardinale who had an 8-year-old son onboard one of the buses told KUSI. “He said these adults, they weren’t kids but they had backpacks on mom and they tried to get on our bus…there was a lot of them.”
“It was definitely very scary,” she added.
“We don’t know who these people are,” said Jeremy Adams, another parent. “We don’t know if they have a criminal history, what their background is.”
“Bystedt added that ‘for the safety of students and bus drivers’ buses will drive past stops with migrants nearby, heading directly to the next one on the route,” according to KUSI.
“Please stay [vigilant] and if the bus drives by, please follow the bus to pick up your child at the next stop,” she said in the emailed notice to families.
“We are conducting a follow-up investigation to determine if a criminal act has occurred. The Sheriff’s Office takes issues regarding student safety very seriously and are working with the school district in order to keep the students and our community safe,” the San Diego Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
“When they see a bus, naturally the impulse might be this will take me to a much safer area,” Pedro Rios, the director of the American Friends Service Committee, told the outlet. “First and foremost there has to be an acknowledgment by the Biden administration that asylum is a human right.”
