White House press secretary Jen Psaki and her allies are playing defense amid criticism over her endorsement of the theory that Fox News’ Peter Doocy “sounds like a stupid son of a b-tch.”

In a tweet posted late Friday, she dismissed her harsh endorsement by touting how she’d also said something nice about the journalist. She added that her intention had never been to disparage Doocy personally but rather to throw shade at Fox News.

“Full video shows I also told a story about Peter’s grace last night and made very clear I was not being critical of him or any reporter at Fox, and instead was critical of the slant of some Fox topics. He is doing his job. I am doing mine. We debate. We disagree. I respect that,” she tweeted.

She posted the tweet a day after she was asked during an appearance on a far-left podcast whether “Peter Doocy is a stupid son of a b-tch or does he just play one on TV.” But instead of shutting down the question, the White House press secretary humored it.

“He works for a network that provides people with questions that, nothing personal to any individual including Peter Doocy, but might make anyone sound like a stupid son of a b-tch,” she said in response, triggering laughter from the far-left crowd.

Her words left critics annoyed for a couple of reasons.

One was the going theory that had Trump administration press secretary Kayleigh McEnany ever said something similar about a liberal “journalist,” the entire left-wing establishment press would have suffered a collective meltdown.

Another was the fact that Fox News is reportedly the most-watched cable news channel in America among Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.

“[I]n October, Fox News unsurprisingly got the majority of the audience of self-proclaimed Republicans, with 69% of them overall tuning into total-day programming and 73% of them in the demo tuning into primetime programming,” The Wrap reported in February, citing Nielsen data.

“Fox News also commanded the largest number of independents in the key news demo during primetime and total-day hours: 55% of those 25-54 watched the network in primetime, compared to CNN’s 23% and MSNBC’s 22%. During total-day hours, 58% of independents in the demo watch Fox News, 18% chose MSNBC and 25% selected CNN.”

The most surprising revelation, however, was that among “those demo-aged viewers surveyed who identified as Democrats, 39% chose Fox News, 31% chose MSNBC and 30% chose CNN for programming from 8 p.m. ET to 11 p.m. ET.”

Fox News also outperformed CNN and MSNBC in total-day viewership.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration is one of the lowest-rated administrations — job-approval wise — in American history.

CNN’s Brian Stelter, a “media correspondent” who’s routinely accused of being a propagandist, has also come to Psaki’s defense, claiming that she was just “tired” from working so hard.

“I think Jen Psaki is kind of like — remember in senior year, spring of your senior year, you’re about to graduate and you’re just tired of all this? I think we’re seeing that from Jen Psaki. She’s about to leave the White House,” he said.

“She’s going to a job — likely be MSNBC — so she’s kind of relaxing and maybe sharing how she really feels. But to be fair, she didn’t really criticize him directly. She was really criticizing Fox News as an organization.”

Regarding Fox News, he argued that Psaki had a valid “point.”

“I think the point she’s trying to say there is that Fox pushes story lines that are sometimes nonsense. Doocy does that in the briefing room,” he said.

Listen:

Stelter, a close Biden administration ally who’s been accused of sucking up to the administration, is a fierce critic of Fox News, the one lone network that critics say doesn’t treat President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden like the second coming.
