Late-night comedian Jon Stewart’s strong emotions about the current administration’s actions resulted in an injured hand.
In the opening monologue of The Daily Show‘s Monday episode, Stewart actually gave President Donald Trump some credit for the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) but criticized the laying off of federal employees as “emotional whiplash from looking for efficiencies.”
“But apparently our nation’s civil service is now synonymous with waste, fraud and abuse,” he snarked.
He also suggested that there are other ways to get a handle on government waste than how DOGE is going about the job, appearing to mock Elon Musk with a mug reading “World’s Worst Dad.” The host claimed that cutting oil and gas subsidies could be a better way to save taxpayer dollars, and added Big Pharma companies to that list.
“Holy s**t! I can’t believe it! I just saved us billions of dollars in 11 seconds,” Stewart declared mockingly.
He then snapped at former President Joe Biden over his bragging about lowering the prices of ten prescription drugs for those receiving Medicare.
“It would be embarrassing if it was a small drop in the bucket and that the American people didn’t expect that we should negotiate for all their f—ing drugs because we’ve already paid for it with our subsidies!” At this point Stewart was visibly agitated, smashing the mug.
“Come on!” he shouted, sliding his now-injured hand under the desk.
“I’ll be going to the hospital soon,” he laughed, arguing that Americans should be far more angry at federal subsidies than corporations.
“But why do we, the taxpayers, subsidize their psychopathy? That’s the waste, fraud and abuse in our system. That’s it. That’s what we should be going after,” he reasoned. “We’re getting f***ed at a [Sean] Diddy [Combs] party and they’re making us buy the baby oil.”
Later, he would reveal his bleeding hand to the audience prompting a shocked gasp from those in attendance.
