Larry Elder lets slip that he could be mulling 2024 White House run

Larry Elder may have caught the political bug after challenging Gavin Newsom last year in California’s recall election that the Democratic governor managed to prevail in.

Speaking to 15-year-old independent journalist, Phoenix Legg, on Friday in Dallas, Elder teased a possible White House run — in town attending the Conservative Political Action Conference, he spoke with Legg in the lobby of the Hilton Anatole hotel.

“I am getting a lot of feedback about a possible run for some higher office. I’ll just leave it that way,” Elder said, prompting Legg to ask if he was considering such a run.

“I would consider running for something other than governor of California,” Elder replied.

“There aren’t too many offices that are more important than governor of California other than maybe some office in Washington D.C. I can’t think of what that office might be. But I’m not ready to make any announcement just yet,” he then teased.

While Elder was unsuccessful in his quest to unseat Newsom, he cited a strong base of donors around the country to suggest his campaign was a “very successful venture.”

Noting that he had received 3 1/2 million votes, Elder told the young reporter that a lot of people had approached him about running against Newson, including his pastor, “I had never run for anything before, except for third-grade class president, and I never thought that I’d ever run for politics.”

“The more I thought about it the more I felt — and this may sound a little arrogant — I had a moral, a spiritual and a patriotic duty to do this, and that’s why I did it,” he explained.
