Lawmaker facing jailtime for laying hands on officers gets pregnant on purpose

Rep. LaMonica McIver, D-New Jersey, has announced her pregnancy, despite potentially facing a lengthy prison sentence.

The lawmaker was indicted by a grand jury for her involvement in a May 2025 incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. She was seen on video allegedly assaulting one of the officers at the ICE facility, Delaney Hall, during a demonstration, and she is now facing charges for forcibly assaulting, impeding, intimidating, and interfering with ICE and Homeland Security Investigators.

Despite her attempts to get the charges dropped, the process is still moving forward. And apparently, so are her plans to have a child.

Look:

“People might find it crazy that even though I’m facing 17 years in prison, I made the decision to get pregnant. But, at the end of the day, this is something I couldn’t let be consumed by this administration. I refuse to let them take my joy or my future,” she wrote in a Tuesday post.

X users weighed in on her life plan, including some who accused the lawmaker of getting pregnant in the hopes of avoiding punishment:
