‘Lying’ FBI witness ‘does not exonerate’ Biden crime family. Here’s why.

Democrats have seized on word that FBI informant Alexander Smirnov, who accused President Joe Biden of illegal involvement in so Hunter’s shady foreign business dealings, lied to the FBI and had “high-level contacts” with Russian intelligence operatives to claim that the investigation into the Bidens’ potentially criminal activities has collapsed and the “Big Guy” has been exonerated.

Of course, nothing could be further from the truth, as attorney Jonathan Turley explains.

“Alexander Smirnov is now a defendant in federal court after being charged by special counsel David Weiss for spreading a false story about Hunter Biden receiving $5 million from Burisma, the Ukrainian energy company,” Turley writes in a New York Post op-ed. “The allegation has produced a stampede of Democrats who view his indictment as a much-needed talking point as the House continues to build the case of influence-peddling by the Biden family.”

According to Turley, some on the left are even trying to “revive a previously debunked story that Hunter Biden’s laptop could be Russian disinformation.”

But, he argues, the Dems need to take another look at the DOJ’s filing.

A “closer reading of the filing dispels those claims and contradicts a new effort by Hunter Biden to dismiss charges against himself,” Turley writes. “The filing itself is actually an argument to keep Smirnov in federal detention.”

While Smirnov “admitted contacts with Russian intelligence officials and previously scheduled meetings with such figures to argue he is a flight risk,” the filing isn’t exactly the “bombshell” Democrats would have Americans believe it is.

Turley explains:

[T]here are a couple of aspects to the filing that undermine the claims of a “bombshell” revelation of a Russian disinformation campaign. First, these disclosures were not the result of surveillance or interceptions by American intelligence. Smirnov appears to have been cooperating with the United States and told his US “handler” about all of these contacts.

Second, Smirnov’s contacts were described as “recent” and did not apparently precede 2020. They have nothing to do with the laptop or the evidence of influence-peddling found in emails on that computer. This is solely a claim of a large payment to the Bidens from Burisma.

Third, the Justice Department states that Smirnov had expressed “bias” against Joe Biden and used “his routine and unextraordinary business contacts with Burisma” to make the bribery allegations.

Even if Smirnov is guilty of everything charged in the filing, Turley argues, the filing “does not address hundreds of confirmed emails of Hunter Biden cashing in on an array of foreign contacts.”

Hunter Biden’s “sweetheart” plea deal didn’t fall apart because of false information Smirnov provided, as Hunter’s legal team is now arguing, but because, “the judge asked a simple question on the meaning of the immunity.”

“The deal immediately imploded as the prosecutor was forced to admit that he had never seen a deal like this for anyone other than Hunter Biden,” Turley writes.

What’s more, according to the attorney, “this filing does not change the evidence that the Biden family made millions in shaking down foreign companies and business figures.”

His assertion is backed up by a Politico report, published on Sunday, headlined, “Biden’s brother used his name to promote a hospital chain. Then it collapsed.”

This, the House Oversight Committee said on X, is what a real “bombshell” looks like.

“While the extent to which Joe Biden’s relatives have invoked their ties to him to advance their business careers has been a subject of ongoing controversy,” Politico reported, “the documents obtained by POLITICO demonstrate that Joe Biden was a central element of Jim Biden’s pitch to potential partners and investors during this period.”

“Jim Biden brought up Joe Biden’s campaign to an Americore executive and also used Joe’s name to woo potential partners and investors,” the Oversight Committee noted. “Similar to Hunter Biden’s message to a CEFC associate, Jim Biden claimed Joe Biden was sitting next to him while on a health care pitch call.”

Meanwhile, the Committee is demanding answers from the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ).

“The DOJ and FBI have a lot of explaining to do about their reliance on the informant whose allegations were included in the FBI-generated FD-1023,” they stated on X. “Why did they use this informant, who officials claimed was highly credible, since 2010? Why did they pay the informant six figures? Why did the DOJ sit on serious allegations from the informant whom the FBI deemed highly credible for years before investigating the claims?

“The American people deserve answers.”
