Mollie Hemingway: ‘Vehemently partisan press is a threat to a functioning republic’

The mainstream media continues to carry water for Democrats and the latest in openly biased coverage of Vice President Kamala Harris is being blasted as outright propaganda.

In example after example, the partisan press is enabling the re-branding of the vice president into the perfect presidential nominee heading into the November election. And The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway called out the smoke and mirrors in a social media post on Sunday that called attention to the threat it poses to the nation.

“Our vehemently partisan and propaganda press is a threat to self-government and a functioning republic,” Hemingway wrote.

“And it’s becoming truly impossible to ignore or excuse unless you are the weakest or most low-information of people,” she added.

Indeed, in a glaring and headline-making example on Sunday, ABC’s Jonathan Karl denied reality as he defended Harris despite not seeming to have his facts straight.

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) held Karl’s feet to the fire as he insisted, without providing evidence, that Harris said she had changed her position on Medicare for All.

“She said when she ran for president that she wants to eliminate private health insurance on the job for 170 million Americans, Jon,” Cotton reminded Karl when he questioned the senator’s remarks on ABC’s “This Week.”

“I mean, that is not her position now,” Karl declared, claiming that Harris said she no longer supports the health policy she touted in her 2019 presidential campaign.

“How do you know that is not her position now?” Cotton confronted Karl.

“She has not said that. Maybe anonymous aides on a Friday night have said that but the last thing that she said…,” he added before Karl interrupted.

Karl insisted Harris was “making an effort to move to the middle” of her party.

“She’s taking these efforts not to change these positions but to hide these positions,” Cotton pointed out as the two sparred over the reality that Harris had not actually said what Karl insisted she did.

Therein lay the media’s ignorance, if not duplicity, in spinning a Democrat-friendly narrative that Hemingway called out in her post.

Outkick’s Ian Miller noted how Karl just made up Harris’ policy stances “to protect her” while journalist Glenn Greenwald noted that “This is exactly what Democrats said they want and expect the media to do.”

“There’s no reason for Kamala to do any real interviews or answer any questions about her views because the media will do the job for her, even if by lying,” he added in a post on X.

Others on X also slammed Karls’ interview and voiced their agreement with Hemingway’s assessment.
