NBC reporter Yamiche Alcindor accused of illegally voting in Florida, network stands behind her

Yamiche Alcindor, a liberal reporter for NBC and PBS, is under fire from a governmental watchdog group that has accused her of illegally voting in Florida’s elections.

The American Accountability Foundation (AAF) filed a formal elections fraud complaint late last month, in which it asked Florida to “immediately open an investigation” into Alcindor, who they claim lives in Washington D.C. and is “therefore ineligible to vote in the state of Florida.”

“I am writing today on behalf of the American Accountability Foundation to request that you immediately open an investigation into Mrs. Yamiche Leone Alcindor to determine whether she has illegally voted in Florida elections,” the complaint reads. “Public information indicates that Mrs. Alcindor is a resident of the District of Columbia, and therefore ineligible to vote in the State of Florida. Despite this, Mrs. Alcindor is registered to vote and has voted in the State of Florida.”

In order to register to vote in Florida, you must be a legal resident, which the state defines as “the place where a person has a fixed abode with the present intention of making it their permanent home.”

“Documentary evidence suggests that Mrs. Alcindor does not have the present intention of making the address where she is registered to vote her permanent home, as required by Florida law,” the complaint alleges.

Alcindor and her husband, Nathaniel Cline — a fellow D.C. reporter — currently live in Washington D.C. “and have evidenced an intention to make that their permanent home,” the complaint explains.

To support its claim, the AAF cited a 2017 tweet in which Alcindor announced that she was moving to D.C. “to cover social safety net issues and how Trump’s administration impacts everyday people’s lives.”

The complaint is dated October 25, but it garnered attention last week when the Foundation went after Alcindor for a 2020 tweet about voter fraud.

“There is no evidence of mass mail in voting fraud,” she contended at the time.

“Hey @Yamiche need some evidence of mail in ballot voter fraud,” the AAF tweeted. “Here’s some evidence. You voted Monday in Florida. You don’t live there.”

Attached to the tweet was “Broward County’s log of your fraudulent mail-in ballot arriving in their office.”

According to the AAF’s complaint, there are only three possible scenarios that would explain why Alcindor is voting in Florida:

First, Mrs. Alcindor and Mr. Cline do not live together and Mrs. Alcindor lives in Florida. This would be a fact question for you to resolve, but it appears highly unlikely and is contradicted by documentary evidence. Alternatively, the couple are Florida residents and Mr. Cline is voting illegitimately in the District of Columbia. This is possible but also seems highly unlikely, especially since Mr. Cline is a beat reporter in the Metropolitan Washington area, a feat that would be difficult to accomplish from southern Florida. Lastly, the most likely answer is that Mrs. Alcindor lives in the District of Columbia but is using the convenience of a property in Miramar, Florida to continue to vote in the state of Florida despite not being a resident.

“The totality of the evidence suggests that Mrs. Alcindor is illegally registered to vote, and has illegally voted, in the State of Florida,” the claim argues.

In a statement to The Federalist, NBC News stood behind Alcindor.

“Yamiche’s legal residence,” said a spokesperson for the network, “is in the state of Florida — the only state where she votes – and she complies with state voting laws and absentee voting guidelines.”
