New DHS Sec. Kristi Noem takes ride-along with feds joins NYC immigration raid

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem joined immigration authorities as they completed a raid in New York City this week.

Noem documented her participation in the raid through tweets posted throughout the morning and afternoon.

Case in point:

The raid specifically targeted a high-profile Venezuelan gang member and others in the Bronx, according to station WABC.

“Noem rode alongside federal law enforcement agents as they tracked down a high priority target who was wanted for kidnapping, assault and burglary,” the station notes. “He has been linked to the Tren de Aragua gang in Venezuela who was tied to the Aurora, Colorado apartment invasion.”

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with federal partners including the FBI, ATF, DEA, CBP and the U.S. Marshals Service, began conducting enhanced targeted operations today in New York City to enforce U.S. immigration law and preserve public safety and national security by keeping potentially dangerous criminal aliens out of our communities,” an ICE spokesperson said.

One raid that occurred early Thursday morning in the Bronx wound up waking up local apartment dwellers, who then saw a suspect being dragged out onto the streets.

“When they brought him out he had shackles on his wrists to his feet,” a woman who lives in the area told the New York Post. “His face had a real angry expression. It was strange. I’ve lived here many years and I’ve never seen him come in or out of the building.”

“Everybody in the building is just asking who else are they coming for? How are they picking the people? Is it just people who have been in the system, who have been arrested? A lot of people don’t have their papers here and there is a lot of fear. We need to know how they are picking the people that they are coming and getting,” she added.

Another local neighbor said they’re not worried about the raids.

“They’re going to get due process,” the neighbor said of the arrested suspects. “It doesn’t matter if, it doesn’t matter what crimes, there or they’re here illegally, they’re going to get due process so it’s okay. I’m not opposed. Whatever they allegedly did.”

Meanwhile, border czar Tom Homan warned ABC News over the weekend that anyone caught in the U.S. illegally faces potential deportation.

“You’re going to see the numbers steadily increase, the number of arrests nationwide, as we open up the aperture,” he said. “Right now, it’s concentrating on public safety threats [and] national security threats. That’s a smaller population.”

“So we’re going to do this on a priority [basis], that’s President Trump’s promise. But as that aperture opens, there’ll be more arrests nationwide.”

President Donald Trump has to his credit loosened restrictions on what sorts of locations can be targeted for raids, including now churches, courthouses, and other “sensitive” sites.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has for his part vowed that city officials will “coordinate” with federal immigration authorities.

In separate but related news, CNN has been crying foul over an internal memo ordering immigration authorities to look their best during raids.

“At least two agencies assisting US immigration officials with the sweeps ordered by the fledgling Republican White House have told personnel to ensure their clothing clearly depicts their respective agency in case they are filmed by journalists,” CNN reported Tuesday, citing sources.
