California has become a crime-ridden hellhole under the failed leadership of Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom and now that the criminals control the streets, he’s finally been stirred to action.
On Friday, Newsom put his signature on a package of bipartisan legislation intended to reign in the out-of-control retail and car theft and sale of stolen goods, taking belated action on the rampant criminality that is now a part of the Golden State’s brand.
The governor signed the 10 bills which he described as a “landmark legislative package” to curb the smash-and-grab robberies and other crimes that have now become so prolific in California that even Democrats are calling for something to be done about it.

“Let’s be clear, this is the most significant legislation to address property crime in modern California history. I thank the bipartisan group of lawmakers, our retail partners, and advocates for putting public safety over politics,” Newsom said in a statement. “While some try to take us back to ineffective and costly policies of the past, these new laws present a better way forward — making our communities safer and providing meaningful tools to help law enforcement arrest criminals and hold them accountable.”
“These bills will strengthen existing laws. They’ll enhance other laws, and they will address the challenges that are well outside the purview of previous initiatives and laws,” the Sacramento slickster said during a Friday morning news conference inside of a San Jose Home Depot. “That’s the issue of organized retail theft, the issue of serial theft, the issue that is front and center in the consciousness of so many Californians.”
Videos of the brazen smash-and-grab robberies and flash mob raids on retail establishments in which thugs rush in and steal armloads of merchandise have gone viral on social media, reinforcing the perception that Newsom’s California is a lawless gangster state run by criminal-coddling “woke” fanatics.
“This goes to the heart of the issue, and it does it in a thoughtful and judicious way,” the governor said of the package. “This is the real deal.”
Just hours after Newsom’s news conference, thieves hit three separate Los Angeles-area 7-Eleven stores in a span of 20 minutes, stealing food and drink items and making their getaway on bicycles.

“About 20 people stormed into the convenience stores grabbing food and drink items before fleeing on bicycles, according to LAPD Headquarters,” NBC Los Angeles reported. “The three stores were all broken into just minutes apart and are all within a two-mile radius of each other.”
Republicans were critical of Newsom’s sudden interest in addressing the crime issue, suggesting that it’s too little, too late.
“This is just another gaslighting moment by Newsom and Democratic lawmakers to dupe Californians into believing this is all we need to protect our families from criminals,” Sen. Brian Dahle, a Republican from Beiber said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “Although I supported these measures, they should’ve been done a long time ago and they won’t overturn the harm done by previous policies.”
Newsom “doesn’t deserve an ounce of credit for fighting the crime crisis,” said Assembly Republican leader James Gallagher who represents Yuba City.
“The arsonist and the fireman” governor was recently slammed for his shameless photo op clearing out a homeless camp.
