Northern border with Canada sees 550% increase in illegal crossings under Biden

The porous southern border wasn’t the only sovereignty concern unaddressed by President Joe Biden as illegal crossings from Canada saw an “astonishing” uptick representing dozens of countries.

Sensational images from the U.S.-Mexico border certainly highlight the ineptitude of the current administration’s handling of the ongoing invasion of America. However, just as staggering as the tens of thousands clamoring to cross the Rio Grande have been the more than five-fold increase in apprehensions from nearly 80 different countries making the trek from the neighbors to the north.

Tuesday, Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia of the United States Border Patrol’s Swanton Sector broke down the data marking Fiscal Year 2023 for the region comprising the 295-mile stretch of land where Canada butted up against New Hampshire, New York and Vermont.

“Swanton Sector Border Patrol Agents have seen an astonishing 550% increase compared to last year by recording 6,925 apprehensions from 79 different countries between 10/01/2022 to 9/30/2023,” he posted on X with some images and a run down of the top five countries represented that included Mexico, India, Venezuela, Haiti and Romania.

By comparison, in FY 22, there had been only 1,000 apprehensions and a meager 365 in FY 21, and even those numbers gloss over the volume of crossings occurring across the entirety of the U.S.-Canada border.

Data from Border Patrol indicated that there had been 189,402 total encounters for FY 23, nearly double the 109, 535 from FY 22 and roughly seven times the 27,000 encounters of FY 21. All of those figures were readily dwarfed by the 2.4 million encounters from the southern border, but the more than 5,000 miles of the north does not receive nearly as much resources to contend with crossings.

A separate post from Garcia highlighted the agency’s reliance on residents to aid in surveilling the area as a video showed an example of a smuggling operation with the caption, “What does human smuggling look like along the northern border? See it here! Our vigilant Burke, New York agents intercepted this smuggling attempt last year. If you see something, say something.”

Following the abysmal year overseen by Biden’s derelict Department of Homeland Security, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) announced his own Norther Border Alliance Task Force to take on the security threats, committing $1.4 million to coordinate with “State Police, Forest Rangers, and Fish and Game Department, as well as to county and local law enforcement agencies to fund patrols within 25 air miles from the Canadian border.”

The Granite State governor highlighted, “Encounters with individuals on the terrorist watch list at the ports of entry on the northern border have doubled since 2017.”

While Northern Border Security Caucus co-chair Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Kelly had pointed out to Fox News Digital in October, “You don’t have to worry about coming through a jungle, you just walk across. There’s not a river that you have to get across; there’s really nothing there to keep people from coming over,” even harsh winter conditions weren’t enough to deter crossings.

From the beginning of the fiscal year through January alone there had been a reported 846% uptick in encounters and apprehensions with most of them, according to Garcia, still representing Mexican nationals.
