‘Not much else you can say:’ Biden’s abysmal poll numbers have Dem strategist sounding alarm

Democratic strategist James Carville made no bones about President Biden’s advanced age being a problem in the next presidential election while noting his cataclysmically bad poll numbers were “troubling.”

Carville showed evident alarm during an interview on “CNN Primetime” Thursday with host Abby Phillip, stating that the incredibly bad poll numbers were a definite sign of voter apprehension.

“Well, I guess, to say the least, the polls were not great,” Carville commented concerning Biden’s age addressed in a recent CNN poll. “And it tells us that voters are expressing some apprehension here. It’s pretty clear. There’s not much else you can say when you look at them.”

The CNN poll was not kind to Biden, indicating that the left can no longer ignore his cratering approval ratings or his age. The numbers from a series of polls that have been conducted over the last several months have Democrat Party strategists more than just a little worried about Biden’s electability.

Forty-nine percent of those who were surveyed in the poll stated that the president’s age was their biggest concern in the next presidential election. Seven percent said that Biden’s “mental sharpness” was a factor, while seven percent asserted that his “health” was a worry, and another seven percent alluded to the fact that Biden’s ability to carry out his duties was a concern.

President Biden is almost 81 years old and is the oldest sitting president in American history. If he were elected for a second term and survived to complete it, he would be 86 when he left office. For a man who has trouble walking and talking, it seems unlikely he would serve out a second term.

“The polling I’ve seen or anybody else has seen is not very good,” Carville said, referring to Biden’s numbers.

“Are you saying, then, that you’re worried, that you think the Democrats should be taking this more seriously?” Phillip asked him.

“Well, I mean, you know, it’s typically in the August or September before the election, you know – I think President Reagan’s numbers were not great, President Clinton’s were starting to move up a little bit, same thing President Obama,” he replied. “But you can’t look at this and not say that you’re concerned. For me to come on television and say I don’t find this alarming or troubling at all would be stupid. I wouldn’t do that.”

“The Associated Press-NORC poll also found that 77% of Americans say Biden is too old to carry out a second term. While an unsurprising 89% of Republicans expressed the sentiment, 69% of Democrats also had that opinion, according to the poll,” Fox News reported.

Carville was the driving strategic force behind Bill Clinton’s successful 1992 campaign. He’s a leftist but tends to have his finger on the pulse of Democratic politics.

He contended that Democrats should be worried about Biden’s age, but he also pointed out that this is something the White House is well aware of, or at least should be.

“I’m sure the White House knows this, by the way. They don’t need to be told that the president has an age problem,” Carville remarked.

But if that is the case, why haven’t Democrats come up with an alternative candidate?

Carville went on to call out Democratic adviser Jim Messina for branding Democrats who are concerned about Biden’s chances in the next election “bedwetters.”

“Historically, we’re f***ing bedwetters,” Messina told Politico in an interview. “We grew up in the ’80s and ’90s when Republicans won elections all the time. Democrats had their hearts deeply broken when Hillary [Clinton] lost [to Donald Trump in 2016] and people didn’t see that coming. And so, you know, we continually believe every bad thing people say.”

“My friend Jim Messina said Democrats need to quit bedwetting, but my wife’s already changed me to rubber sheets,” Carville quipped while laughing.
