Perino is typically low-key and not a bombastic comedian and commentator the way the incomparable Greg Gutfeld is. But “the Five” cohost gave it a whirl while guest-hosting “Gutfeld!”

“Happy Tuesday, everyone,” she opened up the show. “I’m the queen of mid-morning, Dana Perino, filling in for the king of late night, Greg Gutfeld, who’s out recovering from being Greg Gutfeld.”

You have to give her credit, she really gave humor a try and viewers seemed to love it. Perino went on to joke that Gutfeld’s growth was stunted because he moved to weeknights, “A lot of people don’t realize he was 6’3″ when he started this show.”

After that quip, she laid into Fox News colleague Brian Kilmeade and his haircut, calling it “a national humiliation.”

Later in the segment while discussing public school attendance, Perino took a potshot at another co-host of “The Five,” Harold Ford.

“In Baltimore, for example, chronic absenteeism was at 23% in 2016, 36% in 2020,” she noted, teeing up her smack at Ford. “Last year it was 58%. Fifty-eight percent – or as Baltimore teachers call it, almost half. Fifty-eight percent? I mean, Harold Ford has a better attendance record than that.”

Ford is the token liberal on “The Five,” rotating in and out on the panel along with fellow rabid leftist, Jessica Tarlov.

Perino’s style does not have the same cadence as Gutfeld’s. His is filled with sharp barbs that he lets sink into his audience as he goes from subject to subject. Perino flowed in her appearance with intermittent jabs but no real comedic gravitas. Despite that, many felt she was enjoyable to watch and did a great job.

She is far more known for her love of animals than comedy and did a segment on the show that was pretty funny.
