A border state governor in Mexico is hounding the federal government to surrender politicians wanted in the United States.
Chihuahua Governor Maria Eugenia “Maru” Campos took to X with a video slamming President Claudia Sheinbaum’s government for not turning over Sinaloa’s Governor Ruben Rocha Moya, claiming that the move risks “an international crisis of trust.”

“A country’s true sovereignty is not defended with speeches; it is defended by enforcing the law and strengthening the rule of law. Today we are living through an international crisis of trust that puts at risk the trade agreement that sustains millions of Mexican families and exposes us to facing foreign interventions in our territory,” Campos wrote. “And the only reason for this is the Federal Government’s refusal to prosecute governors and officials accused of ties to organized crime. As governor of a border state, my stance is firm: I am categorically opposed to foreign interventions, but I will not accept them using our sovereignty as a shield for impunity. What is at stake is the freedom and security of all Mexican families. I ask for a few minutes to listen to this message about the moment our country is going through.”
A Breitbart report from May has more:
This week, Mexico’s Security Cabinet announced that General Gerardo Merida Sanchez, the former Secretary for Public Safety in Sinaloa, turned himself in to U.S. authorities earlier this week. The accused drug lord and lawman traveled from Hermosillo, Sonora, to Nogales, Arizona, where he turned himself in to the U.S. Marshal Service.
News of the surrender spread like wildfire through Mexico as he was the first of nine top government officials named in the same indictment against Sinaloa Governor Ruben Rocha Moya. As Breitbart Texas reported, the indictment accuses Moya and his closest allies of openly working for the Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel. The indictment has actual drug trafficking and weapons charges against the various defendants.
The result has been a spike in the simmering tensions between the United States and Mexico, which Campos believes will escalate to full-blown international intervention if Mexico doesn’t comply.
