California Democrats put the finishing touches on a $50 million war chest to fund Governor Gavin Newsom’s legal crusade against incoming President Donald J. Trump, a resounding statement of the state’s failed leadership.
On Monday, legislative leaders of the one-party state government authorized the use of taxpayer money to “Trump proof” the state by making the money available for a legal battle against the new administration with half of the money going toward defending illegal aliens from deportation efforts set to commence once the Biden regime has left the White House.
“This funding agreement cements California’s readiness to serve as a bulwark against Trump’s extremist agenda,” said Democrat Senate Budget Chair Scott Wiener.

“The move — the first of its kind in the nation that positions California to lead a second-term resistance against Donald Trump — comes as Republicans bash state Democratic leaders for focusing on a highly partisan issue even as the southern part of the state suffers from historically devastating fires,” according to Politico.
The news comes as devastating wildfires continue to rage in the Los Angeles area where thousands of homes have already been destroyed and at least 24 people have been confirmed dead, an exclamation point on the misplaced priorities of ruling Democrats whose focus on boutique issues and political cronyism has diverted resources away from such trivial matters as fire prevention.
“The freedoms we hold dear in California are under attack — and we won’t sit idle,” Newsom said immediately after the election in announcing the special session of the legislature.
The money for the legal crusade would have allowed Newsom to stay in the headlines as he mounts his inevitable 2028 presidential bid, one that was complicated by his culpability in the monumental failures that have been laid bare by the wildfires.
“At a time when California should be laser-focused on responding to the devastating wildfires in LA, Democrat lawmakers’ priority is creating a $50 million slush fund to hire government lawyers for hypothetical fights against the federal government and to defend criminal illegal immigrants from being returned to their home countries,” California Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher said in a statement.
Newsom did heed members of the state’s GOP minority by agreeing to expand his special session to include relief for the Los Angeles fires but lumped it together with the anti-Trump session.
“I’m encouraged that Governor Newsom heard our calls to take action on the LA wildfires in a special session,” said State Sen. Brian Jones in a statement. “However, lumping this emergency response together with a politically motivated special session to sue Trump is unnecessary and, frankly, insulting to those struggling through this disaster.”
“Fire victims deserve a response that is both respectful and non-partisan, but instead, Newsom is politicizing a tragic crisis that should focus solely on aiding those in need,” Jones added. “Sadly, these special session bills will likely include inappropriate provisions targeting the incoming federal administration alongside vital disaster relief for Californians.”
“National MAGA Republicans wasted no time politicizing the horrific tragedy unfolding in Los Angeles,” said Wiener in a statement. “As the fires burned, the president-elect, his allies, and senior congressional Republican officials proposed withholding California’s disaster aid and imposing unprecedented conditions on this humanitarian relief. They also spread absurd conspiracy theories about the fires.”
