Resurfaced clip of Ilhan Omar gaffe leads to calls for removal from Congress

A past reference to world history suggests math may not be the only subject a Squad member facing a federal probe struggles with, sparking renewed calls for her removal.

Between the rampant fraud attributed to the Somali community in her state and her own eye-opening adjusted financial disclosures, Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) is facing what many view as rightly deserved scrutiny. As a result, a previous attempt to criticize President Donald Trump on his authority to defend American sovereignty resurfaced in a big way as the lawmaker was heard invoking “World War Eleven.”

As was reported days after Trump returned to the White House, Omar was joined by a handful of Democrats in pushing her Neighbors Not Enemies Act toward repeal of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. “The last time the Alien Enemies Act was invoked, it was used to detain and deport German, Japanese [and] Italian immigrants during World War Eleven,” said the congresswoman in the clip that went viral anew with calls for her ouster from Congress and the country.

At the time, Omar caught her mistake and corrected, “Oh, two, sorry,” as she went on to call the use of the Act “one of the most shameful chapters of American history.”

That same opinion was held by many Americans reflecting on Omar’s continued employment as a representative in Congress, especially given recent actions related to the finances of her and her husband, Tim Mynett.

As previously reported, even TMZ was scrutinizing the Somalia-born politician after she filed an amended disclosure that adjusted the couple’s net worth from a range between $5 million and $30 million to less than $100,000 with an income between about $100,000 and $1 million for 2024. The outlet commented on the dramatic shift, “Pay attention in math, kids … put a comma in the wrong place and pay the price.”

Meanwhile, the adjustment that found the lawmaker losing her cool over questioning, telling reporter Alison Steinberg, “I don’t wanna tell you jack sh*t! How about that?” wasn’t all that had changed in the portfolio as records revealed Mynett’s Santa Rosa winery abruptly shuttered in early April and was dissolved.

Omar had previously faced consequences, albeit minor, in 2023 when she was ousted from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. At the time, she faced harsh criticism for seemingly playing dumb, that past remarks could have been interpreted as antisemitic, telling CNN’s Dana Bash, “I certainly did not or was not aware that the word ‘hypnotized’ was a trope. I wasn’t aware of the fact that there are tropes about Jews and money.”

Of course, now, given the records of her finances and especially her gaffe about WWII, many concluded that Omar may well be too incompetent to serve and, as The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh put it, “This should lead to immediate removal from congress. You cannot be this stupid and be permitted to hold elected office.”
