Satire site shredded for ‘jarringly unfunny’ piece about Disney character killing DeSantis

The leftist satire site “The Onion” was hammered into the ground on Friday after tweeting out a picture of Disney character Goofy holding a crowbar and splattered in blood, proclaiming that he had beaten Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) to death in a humorless bit that Elon Musk called “jarringly unfunny.”

The horrific attempt at humor that only a deranged, radical Marxist could appreciate, seems to be a jab at DeSantis for his efforts to go after the House of Mouse. Others called the tweet “gross” and “irresponsible.”

The violent and bizarre post was shredded by a long list of people on Twitter.

The Onion’s obvious political commentary that borders on incitement comes after Disney filed a lawsuit against DeSantis, accusing the Florida governor of orchestrating a “targeted campaign of government retaliation” against the company. The satirical site then felt it appropriate to portray one of Disney’s classic characters, Goofy, mock-murdering DeSantis in a political cartoon.

The piece that was tweeted out was originally published in the “News in Photos” vertical section of The Onion’s site. It shows Goofy covered in blood and holding a crowbar while he is allegedly standing over the body of DeSantis in a well-to-do suburban home.

Removing all doubt about the graphic, the title read, “Goofy Beats Ron DeSantis To Death With Crowbar.”

According to Fox News, the picture was viewed almost six million times in less than 24 hours on Twitter and was shockingly “liked” by 62 thousand people. That alone is a glaring and disturbing sentiment concerning the state of politics in America currently.

Many, many users did not find the picture funny in the least. A number of them noted that if the same had been done to a Democrat, they would have been canceled if not prosecuted for it.

Conservative influencer “ALX” highlighted the hypocrisy of those “liking” the vicious post while hating posts made by the conservative satire site, The Babylon Bee.

“The same people who were outraged at @TheBabylonBee for telling the truth about ‘Rachel Levine’ will have no problem with this Tweet from The Onion,” he tweeted

Chief Twit Elon Musk tore into The Onion over the tweet on Saturday, “The Onion has become jarringly unfunny. At the heart of humor is a revealed truth, but woke is a lie, so it is humorless.”

Other conservatives were disgusted by the gruesome tweet as well.

Breitbart News’ writer Brandon Darby castigated The Onion, tweeting, “Irresponsible in today’s political climate. You’ve lost your way.”

Daily Caller reporter Nicole Silverio pointed out the sheer hypocrisy of the tweet, “Imagine if a conservative made this sort of joke about a Democrat.”

Newsbusters managing editor Curtis Houck nailed it, “If The Onion did this with a Transformer and, say, Gretchen Whitmer or Gavin Newsom, Oliver Darcy, Ben Collins, Brandy, Irish Brian Stelter, and the whole crew would be freaking out.”

National Libertarian Party Chair Angela McCardle also savaged the post, “The Onion went downhill over 10 years ago when it was taken over by Clinton-loving joyless scolds. I’m not offended by a bloody Goofy joke. It’s just not funny. @TheBabylonBee has replaced The Onion.”
