Screaming Seattle official defends convicted pedophile seeking housing, blasts Marine vet’s ethics concerns

A Washington State official has gone viral for ranting and raving at a fellow official who’d complained about a pedophile being nominated to serve on their committee.

Audio footage from the May 3rd Zoom hearing of the King County Regional Homelessness Authority Continuum of Care Advisory Committee hearing shows committee member Kristina Sawyckyj, a sexual assault survivor and military veteran, raising concerns about the nomination of Thomas Whitaker-Raven Crowfoot, 38.

“We have a code of ethics on this board, and Thomas Whitaker-Raven Crowfoot is a sex offender — repeat sex offender — and I have had a bad experience with him,” Sawyckyj, a military veteran, said.

Listen below from around the 1:00 minute mark:

In response, committee co-chair Shanee Colston snapped at her.

“So I’m gonna cut you off because we can’t disclose people’s personal business here, right. And although that’s public disclosure, we have no right to out anybody in this space,” she said.

“That’s just not ok at all, and I won’t stand for that as a co-chair. We’re not here to discover people’s backgrounds, and actually, I’m glad if that is the case [that he’s a sex offender] that he’s here, because sex offenders are another population that is most vulnerable that don’t have housing,” she added.

Sawyckyj replied by reiterating her point: “He has touched me. So if there’s a meeting where he’s at, I will not be able to be there,” she said.

In response, this time another board member told her to go to the police, to which she replied that she’d already done that. Then Colston started ranting again.

“As the co-chair, I’m telling you that you cannot talk like that in this meeting. I will not have that here. If anyone wants to talk like that, you will be muted and then removed from this meeting,” she said.

This is about equity, and everyone — everyone — deserves housing. I don’t care if they’re a sex offender, I don’t care if they’re black, I don’t care if they’re indigenous, I don’t care if they’re a criminal, I don’t care if they’re coming out of jail, prison, everyone deserves housing,” she added.

“Ok, ok,” someone could be heard replying, to which Colston responded by ranting some more.

“No, it’s not OK! That’s the point. And so when we talk about a code of ethics here, we will be respectful of all people, all-inclusivity. Everybody’s here for the same reason: To end homelessness. Because we’ve all been there, and it sucks, and it’s a sh-tty place to be,” she said.

“But we are all human at the end, and we all deserve housing. It is a human right. It doesn’t matter your background, your religion, your creed, your sexual orientation. I don’t care about none of that, and nobody should either. What we all care about is ending homelessness,” she added.

Colston’s rant later garnered massive pushback on social media:

Here’s the thing: Crowfoot is more than just an accused/suspected sexual abuser. He’s a convicted one.

“In 2010, when he was 25, he was convicted of harboring a minor, a 13-year-old runaway with whom he had a sexual relationship, according to court records,” according to PubliCola, an independent local outlet.

“Two years later, the nominee was charged with raping a minor in a case involving a 15-year-old girl; he ultimately pled guilty to communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, a felony sex crime,” the outlet reported earlier this month.

Then a couple of years later in 2018, Seattle authorities “found him living in a tent near the Seattle waterfront with a 17-year-old girl, whose mother picked her up and took her home, according to Seattle court records.

But none of this seems to matter to Colston, who only cares about so-called “equity” and “inclusion,” even if that means “equity” and “inclusion” for pedophiles …
