Senate bully Schumer pleads with new GOP majority to embrace ‘bipartisan’ bills

Now that a red wave has overtaken the Senate and Oval Office, Democrat Party leaders are suddenly interested in unity.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, who will lose that title courtesy of the GOP’s series of election night victories, is calling for the incoming Congress to embrace bipartisanship. In a statement, Schumer focused on what the future will look like for Senate Dems and did not spend time reflecting on why Republicans were able to take so many seats.

“As we await the final tallies in elections across the country, Senate Democrats remain committed to our values and to working with our Republican colleagues to deliver for the American people,” the majority leader said.

“As I’ve said time and again, in both the majority and the minority, the only way to get things done in the Senate is through bipartisan legislation while maintaining our principles — and the next two years will be no different.”

The Republican Party currently has 52 Senate seats locked down and may pick up a few more as ballots continue to be counted in several races around the country.

Schumer who had previously urged President Joe Biden to drop out of the race when it was clear he would lose to President-elect Donald Trump in a landslide, also praised Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign.

“Vice President Kamala Harris’s historic candidacy inspired millions and her vision for a better future for all Americans will endure. Her advocacy on many issues — from lower costs, more affordable housing, and a fairer tax system — will continue to have strong impacts on America and on our party.”
