As Shakira’s latest world tour drew near, an appearance in Miami found the Columbian entertainer walking off stage after a fan’s alleged behavior prompted calls for “respect and privacy.”
Earlier this year, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer, known for her belly dancing, released her twelfth album “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” in advance of a world tour beginning its North America leg in November.
Gearing up for the tour, Shakira was spotted at LIV Nightclub Miami over the weekend where a dance on stage for fans to her single “Soltera” included an interaction with a fan evidently filming up the entertainer’s skirt.
Video online showed her joyful expression turning to one of shock and concern as she placed one hand on the hem of her dress and used the other to wave off the alleged filming audience member.
Shakira angrily mimed that she could see what the person was doing before placing her hands below her waistline to express that it was not okay to record that. Briefly standing still with her hands on her hips, she danced a bit more before a look of disgust came across her face, she waved her hand dismissively at the apparently persistent pervert, and departed the stage to spend time in the VIP area.
As the incident went viral, reactions on social media strongly condemned the behavior of the unidentified audience member with many issuing statements akin to, “That’s truly disappointing behavior. Artists deserve respect and privacy, both on and off stage. It’s crucial to ensure a safe environment for everyone,” while others chided her for her outfit.

Perhaps it’s not a good idea to dance on stage in a short dress where everyone can look under it? It doesn’t excuse the action of the man, but the reality is that doing so increases the risk of this happening

Several news outlets reached out to the entertainer for comment about the incident, including the Evening Standard which reported her representatives had yet to respond with a statement.
Earlier this year, the singer voiced her opinion on the balance of femininity and respect when she shared her son’s criticism of the “Barbie” movie.
“My sons absolutely hated it,” she told Allure magazine when they ran a profile on her in April.
“They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent. I’m raising two boys. I want ’em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women,” Shakira said. “I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide.”
As her remarks provided triggering to leftists, she continued, “I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity. I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well. We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost.”
