Texas flags close to 3k illegal immigrants registered on state voter rolls

The Lone Star State made a major announcement regarding election integrity as the number of suspected illegal alien voters flagged approaches 3,000.

At the same time, Democrat elected officials have refused to support legislation that would reinforce the law and keep noncitizens from voting; they and their leftist base have done all that they can to obstruct federal law enforcement from conducting mass deportations. Now, the same day that early voting kicked off in Texas, Secretary of State Jane Nelson (R) announced that a review of the state’s voter rolls had turned up over 2,700 potential foreign nationals who are registered to vote.

As detailed in a Monday press release, free access to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ (USCIS) Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program, courtesy of an executive order from President Donald Trump, allowed the state to compare its records with federal citizenship records.

“Only eligible United States citizens may participate in our elections. The Trump Administration’s decision to give states free and direct access to this data set for the first time has been a game changer, and we appreciate the partnership with the federal government to verify the citizenship of those on our voter rolls and maintain accurate voter lists,” stated Nelson after a review of the more than 18 million voters in Texas.

The information was passed from Nelson’s office to the specific counties impacted out of the Lone Star State’s 254 counties for further investigations into voter eligibility. “Once that process is complete, individuals who are deemed noncitizens that voted in a Texas election will be referred to the Office of the Attorney General.”

Monday’s announcement came the same day that early voting began in the state, where the ballot has 17 proposed state constitutional amendments, including Proposition 16, which formalizes citizenship requirements to vote in Texas, placing a stopgap should legislators attempt to change the law in the future, while also curbing local jurisdictions from attempting to allow noncitizens to vote.

“Everyone’s right to vote is sacred and must be protected. We encourage counties to conduct rigorous investigations to determine if any voter is ineligible — just as they do with any other data set we provide,” added Nelson. “The SAVE database has proven to be a critically important data set and one of many that we will continue to use in Texas to ensure that only qualified voters cast a ballot in our elections.”

An initial review of the USCIS data led to 33 voter referrals to Attorney General Ken Paxton’s (R) office over the possibility that illegal votes had been cast in the November 2024 election. Likewise, the state’s top cop posited that more than 100 noncitizens may have voted in both the 2020 and 2022 election cycles.

In September 2021, Governor Greg Abbott (R) signed Senate Bill 1, removing over a million registrants from the voter rolls deemed either outdated or ineligible.

Abbott went on to laud the impact the legislation had when announcing the results in August 2024, adding, “The Secretary of State and county voter registrars have an ongoing legal requirement to review the voter rolls, remove ineligible voters, and refer any potential illegal voting to the Attorney General’s Office and local authorities for investigation and prosecution. Illegal voting in Texas will never be tolerated. We will continue to actively safeguard Texans’ sacred right to vote while also aggressively protecting our elections from illegal voting.”

Additionally, Texas was among a number of states that joined a pilot program with USCIS, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Government Efficiency to improve the SAVE database.

Nelson said, “We are in the early stages of this pilot program, but we already see promising results. This may be the most current and accurate data set there is when it comes to citizenship verification.”

The counties listed with the most potential offenses were: Harris with 362, Dallas with 277, Bexar with 201, El Paso with 165, and Tarrant with 148. Flagged voters are given 30 days to prove their U.S. citizenship or have their registration canceled, at which point they will still be required to present the information to be reinstated.
