The Hollywood Reporter rips George Clooney for Biden diss, mourns America didn’t listen to A-list celebs

The Hollywood Reporter’s editor was not impressed with actor George Clooney’s column, published last summer, calling for President Joe Biden to step down from the 2024 race.

In a recent column of his own, Editor Benjamin Svetkey summarized the “24 weirdest, wildest moments of ’24,” including the time Clooney penned an op-ed essentially begging the president to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.

“At the time, it seemed like a sensible enough idea,” Svetkey wrote of the column. “After all, during his 90-minute senior moment at the June debate against Donald Trump, Joe Biden looked like a surefire loser. So why shouldn’t Clooney, a major Democratic fundraiser, write an op-ed for The New York Times prompting the president to step aside and let a younger candidate run? What could possibly go wrong? Oy.”

“But to be fair, Clooney wasn’t the only left-leaning celebrity who underdelivered this election cycle. Beyoncé, Will Ferrell, Richard Gere, Katy Perry, Dick Van Dyke — none of them were able to move the needle of public opinion enough to get Kamala Harris into the White House, not even Taylor Swift. In the end, America listened to Hulk Hogan,” he added.

Svetkey seems to be under the belief that President Biden would have performed better against President-elect Donald Trump than Vice President Kamala Harris did. Some Americans agree.

“Clooney was the biggest gift to Trump ever,” one Twitter/X user tweeted in agreement.

However, the majority of Americans appear to vehemently disagree.

Case in point:

Recall that Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy also called out Clooney for writing that one column, although for a wildly different reason.

Weeks before writing his Biden column, Clooney held a fundraiser for the president during which he raised millions for his 2024 presidential campaign.

Then all of a sudden, Clooney penned a devastating op-ed for the New York Times calling for President Biden to exit the race and let somebody else take over in his stead.

“I love Joe Biden,” the op-ed read. “As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced.”

“But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can. It’s devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal’ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate,” it continued.

While Clooney received many accolades for the column, zero of them came from Portnoy, who was outright annoyed with the actor for pulling a 180 so quickly.

“George Clooney, what a f–king hero this guy is, huh?” he ranted at the time. “Comes forward today — now, this guy threw a fundraiser, raised tens of millions, co-chair for Biden, three weeks ago. Today comes out, he’s like, ‘Guess what? The guy you saw in the debate, that vegetable, that’s f–king Biden, he’s a vegetable.’”

“He was a vegetable three weeks ago. Acting like he’s doing some heroic thing,” Portnoy added.

Exactly. Every honest person with common sense had already admitted Biden was a vegetable/walking corpse ages ago. The fact that Clooney had finally fessed up to it right when it was convenient for the Democrat Party’s goals showed just how much of a garbage person he really is.
