Trump team drops an inconvenient truth while Oprah takes the stage at DNC

Famed talk show host Oprah Winfrey missed the irony in her attacks on Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump during her DNC speech while his campaign reminded her of an inconvenient truth.

Winfrey’s surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday gave her a platform to whine about her fears over the country and rip into the former president while his team took the opportunity to give Winfrey a blast from her past.

“We know all the old tricks and tropes that are designed to distract us from what actually matters,” Winfrey told the DNC crowd. “But we are beyond ridiculous tweets and lies and foolery. These are complicated times, people, and they require adult conversation. And I welcome those conversations because civilized debate is vital to democracy, and it is the best of America.”

“Now, there’s a certain candidate that says if we just go to the polls this one time, that we’ll never have to do it again,” she said, taking another jab at Trump by misrepresenting his words. “Well, you know what? You’re looking at a registered independent who’s proud to vote again and again and again because I’m an American. And that’s what Americans do. Voting is the best of America.”

She told the crowd that she was “telling the truth” by saying “values and character matter.”

“Most of all,” Winfrey said, “in leadership and in life, you know, this is true, that decency and respect are on the ballot in 2024. And, and just plain common sense over loyalty to any individual.”

After her speech, the billionaire told “CBS Mornings” co-host Tony Dokoupil that she just had to “grab this opportunity” to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris.

“The bottom line for me is that decency and respect are on the ballot. And that’s why I was willing to do it. And let me just tell you the big risk was when I don’t have anything to lose. Now, I don’t have a show … It’s not what, what is it gonna cost me other than knowing that I had to do whatever I could to speak,” she said.

As Winfrey wowed the Chicago crowd, the Trump campaign pulled a memory from the vault, reminding that the legendary media queen once considered Trump a friend and even thought she could be his running mate.

“Too bad we’re not running for office,” Winfrey wrote in a letter back in 2000. “What a team!”

Other social media posts took Winfrey on a trip down memory lane as well.
