‘This is bulls**t!’ Speaker fight gets heated behind closed doors; McCarthy comes up short, prepares for ‘battle’

Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) are reportedly defying House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who is seeking to become Speaker of the House as Republicans take control, making it clear that they are willing and ready to vote for a Democrat instead of him.

The leftist media is claiming they detest him so much that the firebrand Republicans are allegedly willing to cross into enemy territory and choose from Democrats to keep McCarthy from wielding the gavel.

McCarthy made a speech behind closed doors to the House GOP caucus on Tuesday, evidently refusing to back down from his bid for the position even though as many as 14 Republicans are standing against him. Five will evidently not budge no matter what when it comes to voting for McCarthy.

The incoming 118th Congress, which will be sworn in on Tuesday, controls the House now with 222 seats. McCarthy would need 218 to clinch the position and he reportedly does not have the backing.

I’m not going to go away. I’m going to stand until the last four friends stand with me,” McCarthy proclaimed, according to Punchbowl News reporter Jake Sherman.

NBC Capitol Hill correspondent Ryan Nobles is reporting via Twitter, “JUST IN: Kevin McCarthy emerges from closed door meeting and basically concedes he does not have 218 votes yet.. and said he is prepared for a ‘battle on the floor.'”

By all appearances, the fight is going to get ugly.

In a none-too-subtle swipe at Gaetz and Boebert, McCarthy allegedly asserted that House Freedom Caucus members would rather have Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) as Speaker. Jeffries has already been elected by the House Democratic caucus as the lower congressional chamber’s minority leader and is the first black congressional leader of either party. He is also a stone-cold Marxist.

Sherman is also reporting that McCarthy is adamant about not caving, “MCCARTHY is now running through all he did to get to the brink of the speakership. ‘I’ve earned this job,’ he tells the conference behind closed doors.”

“This is bullsh*t,” Boebert reportedly stated following McCarthy’s speech.

Sherman, whose news outlet leans far to the left, claims that Boebert and Gaetz told McCarthy during the meeting that they “don’t mind” if Jeffries is elected Speaker. That claim stretches credulity.

“In a private mtg yesterday, GAETZ, BOEBERT, PERRY told McCarthy they wanted their OWN legal entity in House to wage lawsuits. The group also told McCarthy that they don’t mind if the speaker vote goes to plurality and @RepJeffries is elected bc they’ll fight him,” Sherman explosively tweeted, happily sowing division among conservatives.

If McCarthy doesn’t get the necessary number of votes to become Speaker of the House, other candidates who could fill the void include Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), who is set to be House Majority Leader; Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), the House GOP Conference Chair; and Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC). There are others that are also qualified and ready to step into the rift if need be so the left should not get their hopes up over Jeffries becoming Speaker.
