Tight-lipped Biden dogged by reporters looking for statement on his son’s indictment

President Joe Biden offered little in a mum exchange with the press seeking comment on his son Hunter Biden’s federal indictment.

The typically gaffetastic commander-in-chief appeared to heed the advice of handlers Friday as he crossed the White House South Lawn making his way to Marine One. Offering only a wave as he departed for a West Coast trip, Biden ignored questions from reporters about the multiple felonies his son faced.

“Have you spoken to your son? Have you spoken to Hunter? Any comment on the new charges against your son, Mr. President?” came the queries as the president strode toward his waiting transport.

Stopping in Las Vegas, Nevada to tout rail projects before making his way to California for fundraising, the president could be seen taking the short steps off of Air Force One in each state as he continued to avoid interacting with the press.

Likewise, Hunter Biden himself was spotted outside his residence in the Golden State, smiling as he waved to reporters seeking comment before telling them, “Merry Christmas, guys.”

The younger Biden was indicted Thursday on three felonies and six misdemeanors, having “spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills,” according to special counsel David Weiss who alleged the president’s son had “engaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in self assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019, from in or about January 2017 through in or about October 15, 2020, and to evade the assessment of taxes for tax year 2018 when he filed false returns in or about February 2020.”

The charges from the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California came in addition to the federal firearms charges out of Delaware where Hunter was alleged to have made false statements in the purchase of a firearm and for possessing a firearm while addicted to drugs.

Meanwhile, as a vote on a formal impeachment inquiry is anticipated in upcoming days related to the president’s alleged influence-peddling in connection with his son’s foreign business dealings while serving as vice president, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre directed the press elsewhere for comment.

“Look, I mean, the president has said this before, and he will continue to say, which is that he loves his son and supports him as he continues to rebuild his life,” she said during a press gaggle aboard Air Force One on Friday.

“I’m going to be really careful and not comment on this and refer you to Department of Justice or my colleagues at the White House counsel,” continued Jean-Pierre. “But that’s what I’m going to — I’m not going to go beyond…telling you all what the president has said over and over again. He’s proud of his son, and he is proud of him — proud of him building his life back up.”
