Trump doubles down on $5,000 payout: ‘When I say something, I mean it’

Faced with detraction from “Dumocrats,” President Donald Trump brought receipts to support his dividend promise to the American people.

“When I say something, I mean it!”

Wednesday in Dallas, Texas, the chief executive surprised during his speech at the American Airlines Center when he told Republican National Convention attendees and viewers about a plan to distribute $5,000 checks across the nation.

Prompt pushback has seen the president dig in on the matter, including on Friday referencing his administration’s “Pure SUCCESS” while suggesting opposition is a partisan concern.

“The $5,000 Trump Dividend, given to all Adults in the United States due to the fact that our Country is taking in Trillions of Dollars of Economic Development, Investment, and Pure SUCCESS, is being criticized by ‘Dumocrats’ who are hoping that it never happens — But it will!” began Trump on Truth Social before concluding, “When I say something, I mean it! The $5,000 Dividend will happen because the People of our Country deserve it. VOTE REPUBLICAN — MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

In support of his plan, the president brought up both the One Big Beautiful Bill Act and his previously announced Warrior Dividend of $1,776 to roughly 1.5 million military service members: “As an example, the Dumocrats said THE GREAT BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL, one of the largest ever approved by Congress, or signed into Law by a President happened, despite the Dumocrats saying it would be impossible to get approved — Or the Gift of $1776 that I gave last year to our Military, was an almost guaranteed Non Starter, everyone said it could not be done, but it was, our Military Patriots got the money, and loved it.”

Following the initial announcement, the chief executive insisted that the plan hinged upon whether or not Republicans maintained control of Congress following the midterm elections.

During an interview with Fox News’ Brett Baier, Vice President J.D. Vance was pressed on the proposal as the anchor said, “I can hear the critics’ heads exploding. They’re saying out loud, I guarantee you, ‘The president is bribing voters to vote for Republicans to take over the House, and then he’s bankrupting the country because the deficit and debt is huge and inflation would come back if this comes into play.’ So how do you answer those criticisms?”

The likely frontrunner for the 2028 presidential nomination responded in part, “What the president’s just saying is, ‘If you keep it going to the American people, if you keep us in power and allow us to continue to do these things, then you’re going to share in some of the benefit of this incredible wealth that we’re creating in the United States of America.”

Vance added, “I don’t think it’s a controversial idea.”

Likewise, as he himself was questioned on the plan for payouts, Trump told CBS News that he believes he doesn’t need congressional approval, adding, “The country is doing so well, we have taken in trillions of dollars in tariffs and other things. We have now over $20T worth of manufacturing plants and other investments being made in the U.S., which is far greater than ever before.”

The president noted that he wants to see the money spent exclusively in the United States, a point he also made when speaking with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham.

“First of all, the money has to be spent in the United States. We can’t go out and buy things from Germany or, frankly, Canada, or any other place … But, much more importantly, we’re gonna take care of the $40 trillion over a period of time through growth,” he said, referring to the national debt.

Confronted with the tagline “MAGA Socialism” courtesy of The New York Times, Trump instead called his proposal “real entrepreneurship. That’s really what it is. You know, I see that some people say, ‘That’s communism.’ It’s not communism. It’s actually good entrepreneurship.”
