An interaction between New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) during the 9/11 commemoration ceremony at Ground Zero on Friday ignited outrage on social media.
The two Democrats were among the political figures who turned out to mark the 25th anniversary of the most devastating terror attack on U.S. soil in the nation’s history, when two jet airliners piloted by Islamic terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center, killing nearly 3,000 innocent people.
At one point during the solemn ceremony, as the victims’ names were being read, a camera feed of the crowd cut from the emotional scene of a family member crying to the two socialist superstars enjoying a moment of levity with AOC and the first Muslim mayor of Gotham appearing to joke and laugh. It isn’t clear what they were discussing.

Hizzoner was already facing intense criticism over attending the ceremony, with critics arguing that his presence would be inappropriate.
