Trump gushes over Xi Jinping: ‘Smart, brilliant, everything perfect… runs 1.4B people with iron fist’

Optics be damned, former President Donald Trump gave a ringing endorsement of Chinese President Xi Jinping during a town hall with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Trump called the leader of communist China a “brilliant guy” and marveled over his use of an “iron fist” to country the country.

“Think of President Xi. Central casting, brilliant guy. You know, when I say he’s brilliant, everyone says, ‘Oh that’s terrible,’” said Trump said Tuesday evening. “Well, he runs 1.4 billion people with an iron fist. Smart, brilliant, everything perfect. There’s nobody in Hollywood like this guy. I got them to pay us $28 billion because they screwed our farmers for years.”

This is far from the first time that Trump has praised Xi. In April, he had a similar message while being interviewed by Tucker Carlson, who was still with Fox News at the time.

“President Xi is a brilliant man. If you went all over Hollywood to look for somebody to play the role of President Xi, you couldn’t find, there’s nobody like that. The look, the brain, the whole thing. We had a great relationship,” he told Carlson.

Trump said Xi was “smart, top of his game,” during a Waco, Texas, campaign rally in March.

The former president raised plenty of eyebrows back in 2018 when he marveled over Xi being president for life over China, sarcastically suggesting that the U.S. might want to give that a try.

“He’s now president for life,” Trump said of Xi. “President for life. And he’s great. And look, he was able to do that. I think it’s great. Maybe we’ll give that a shot someday.”
