President Donald J. Trump rallied the MAGA faithful after a demoralizing showing in off-year elections in which GOP gubernatorial candidates in two key states were thrashed and “communist lunatic” Zohran Mamdani was elected as New York City’s new mayor.
Democrats ran the table when Mikie Sherrill won in New Jersey and former CIA officer Abigail Spanberger beat Winsome Earle-Sears in Virginia, a state where voters also elected a candidate who wished for the death of a Republican foe’s children as attorney general. In California, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s initiative to rig next year’s midterms through redistricting also easily passed.
It was a disastrous showing for the GOP, but in a short video posted to social media on Wednesday, Trump brushed off suggestions that the elections broke the back of MAGA, touting the movement’s successes and bucking up spirits for the fight that lies ahead.

“My fellow Americans, our movement is far from over, in fact, our fight has only just begun,” Trump declared in the clip, which was chock full of patriotic imagery.
“We are one movement, one people, one family, and one glorious nation under God,” the leader of the free world continued with a remix of Norman Greenbaum’s classic song “Spirit in the Sky” played in the background.
The video featured Trump at rallies and in the Oval Office, New York City Democrat shutdown engineers Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, and the “autopen” portrait at the White House that commemorates the four-year horror show of the “Joe Biden” administration.
There was also a flyover of the White House, bursting fireworks in the sky, and Trump the peacemaker, with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu.
“So with American pride swelling in our hearts, and American courage stirring in our souls… we will make America great again!” Trump vowed.
Also included was plenty of material guaranteed to trigger Democrats, including the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, memes of him wearing a crown and as the pope, and the irreverent AI video of Jeffries sporting a Mexican bandito mustache and wearing an oversized sombrero, a light-hearted jab that infuriated the thin-skinned House minority leader.
The video ended with Trump addressing supporters at a rally.
“Last night, it was not expected to be a victory. It was very Democrat areas. I don’t think it was good for Republicans,” Trump told GOP senators at the White House on Wednesday after the sour election results. “I’m not sure it was good for anybody. But we had an interesting evening, and we learned a lot.”
Both New Jersey and Virginia are dominated by Democrats, so while Tuesday’s elections were a kick in the gut for the GOP, they weren’t entirely surprising, especially with the media carrying Schumer’s water by protecting him from being blamed for the shutdown.
“After last night’s results, the decision facing all Americans could not be more clear. We have a choice between communism and common sense,” Trump told business leaders in Miami on Wednesday. “As long as I’m in the White House, the United States is not going communist in any way, shape, or form. We’ll stop it. We’re going to stop it. Stop this nonsense.”
