Trump says federal gov’t should take over D.C. and ‘run it with law and order,’ mayor ‘hits back’ with useless PR sheet

The nation’s capital has degenerated into a crime-ridden hellhole under Democrat rule and President Donald J. Trump expressed support for the idea that the federal government should “take over the governance” of Washington, D.C., and “run it with law and order.”

The nation’s 47th president weighed in on the issue when speaking with reporters onboard Air Force One on Wednesday night and while he praised the local police department and said that he gets along “great” with Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser, he suggested that there’s plenty of room for improvement.

“I think that we should govern the District of Columbia,” Trump said. “I think that we should run it strong, run it with law and order, make it absolutely flawless.”

“The federal government should take over the governance of D.C. and run it really, really properly,” he told the press. “And I like the mayor, I get along great with the mayor, they’re not doing the job – too much crime, too much graffiti, too many tents on the lawns, there’s magnificent lawns and there’s tents. It’s a sad thing, homeless people all over the place. We’ve gotta take care of the homeless.

“But we can’t have that in Washington, D.C. When they come in to see me – like Macron is coming, the prime minister of the UK is coming, all these people coming over to see me,” Trump continued. “We’ll have ultimately President Xi, we’ll have everybody. … You can’t let that happen.”

Trump has been highly critical of Washington, D.C. in the past, previously calling it a “filthy and crime-ridden embarrassment to our nation” in 2023 when he was facing a trial on ginned-up charges by the Biden regime’s legal hitman Special Counsel Jack Smith with a jury pool that would be drawn from an area that hates him and is devoutly loyal to the Democratic Party.

He also described the nation’s capital city as “a dirty, crime-ridden death trap, that must be taken over and properly run by the Federal Government,” in an October 2023 post to Truth Social.

Mayor Bowser reacted to Trump’s remarks by insisting that “Washington, DC is a world-class city” in a post to X late Wednesday night.

A federal takeover would drive a stake through the heart of Democrat dreams of D.C. statehood which would give the party two more U.S. senators in an area that overwhelmingly votes for them.

Trump’s support for federalizing D.C. governance will undoubtedly have leftists braying in anger and accusing him of being a dictator like Hitler but he is simply advocating for restoring things to their previous order.

It was in 1973 that President Richard M. Nixon signed the District of Columbia Home Rule Act into law, allowing the District of Columbia to elect a mayor and run its own local affairs, the same year that Roe v. Wade became the law of the land and as Democrats learned in 2022 when the Supreme Court aborted the landmark ruling, nothing lasts forever.
