Trump says Fox News rating ‘sink’ is due to no talk about him, warns MAGA base tired of the ‘games’

As 2022 drew to a close, former President Donald Trump had a message for corporate media with some particularly choice words for Fox News as ratings “continue to sink” because of what “they never say…”

With the annual ratings compiled and 2024 presidential campaigning set to begin in the coming months, the president called out the reported drop in news network viewership with a pointed reminder about the size and scope of his base. While he didn’t name any favorites Saturday, he also didn’t pull any punches when he lumped once-friendly Fox News with the rest of the “fake” outlets.

“Wow!!! So while Trump Hating CNN & MSNBC (MSDNC!) RATINGS are both at record lows,” Trump posted to Truth Social, “numbers that they have never seen before (‘they’re toast’), Fox News Ratings are also way down because they never say ‘Trump’ or TRUTH, never talk about the Rigged Presidential Election, and is a Fake Polling Network. Our giant MAGA base, much bigger than anyone knows, does not like watching Fox play their games. Their Ratings will continue to sink. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Variety reviewed the Nielsen ratings and found that while Fox News remained number one among its cable news competitors, it had lost one percent of its overall viewership. Though seemingly minimal for the channel bringing in an average of 2.33 million viewers per night in primetime, in those aged 18-49 the self-described “fair and balanced” network lost nine percent of its audience from the year prior.

By comparison, MSNBC and CNN reportedly had their lowest rated year in 2022 losing 22 and 34 percent of their overall audience respectively as well as 40 and 35 percent of their viewers in the 18-49 demographic.

For Variety’s Michael Schneider, some of this was attributed to the growing preference for streaming over broadcast television and he wrote, “There may come a time when it doesn’t make sense to rank the broadcast and cable networks anymore. Actually, that time is probably already here, with most viewing now taking place via streaming and other means.”

“And yet, Nielsen’s numbers — which include time shifting and other ways people watch, not just live — are still the best barometer of who’s watching what in the linear world,” Schneider went on.

Trump then proceeded to share an admission from the New York Times that, by contrast, his social media platform had become “vibrant” and “managed to outplace its rivals.”

“Experts say the app itself has only grown more influential in conservative circles ahead of the midterm election,” the Times said. “Much of that is owed to former President Donald J. Trump, one of the app’s founders and its star, who now uses Truth Social as his primary megaphone to the world.”

Later on, in what would be his last post of 2022, the president hinted at what some of his focuses for the new year would be as he not only called out the left, but Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, their connections to China, and RINOs writ large.

“HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of the Radical Left Democrats, Marxist Lunatics, China loving Coco Chow and her Obedient Husband, Mitch, and Clueless RINOS, who are working so hard to DESTROY our once great Country,” Trump wrote before pivoting to the positive. “More importantly, HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Incredible, Brave, and Strong American Patriots who Built, Love, and Cherish America. The REAL leaders of our Country will always remain FAITHFUL and LOYAL to you. The USA will be back, Bigger & Better & Stronger than ever before. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!”
