Trump to end temporary protection status of Somali nationals in Minnesota: ‘This is how we win’

Securing the attention of the White House brought swift action as the president’s response to a report on alleged fraud was met with a victorious, “This is how we win.”

Amid mass deportation efforts that have seemingly exposed how prevalent the long-downplayed illegal alien population has grown in the United States, scrutiny in Minnesota put the focus on the Somali-born population. Now, after Operation Twin Shield had already exposed considerable fraud, President Donald Trump announced the end of Temporary Protected Status for Somalis in the Gopher State after an investigation had uncovered millions of taxpayer dollars were allegedly being funneled to the terror group Al-Shabaab.

A Truth Social post from the commander-in-chief on Friday evening declared, “Minnesota, under Governor Waltz [sic], is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity. I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota.”

“Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of Dollars are missing. Send them back to where they came from. It’s OVER!” added the president, who signed off “President DJT” and prompted reaction from Christopher Rufo — who, with Ryan Thorpe, had exposed the supposed scheme — writing on X, “We broke the Somali fraud story and called on President Trump to revoke the Temporary Protected Status for all Somalis. Now, the President has delivered. This is how we win.”

Rufo and Thorpe published their findings with City Journal after uncovering alleged fraud involving Minnesota’s Medicaid Housing Stabilization Services and the Feeding Our Future program, which, in part, were said to have inflated autism rates among children to obtain allocated taxpayer funds, which were then sent back to Somalia, seemingly to the benefit of the ISIS-affiliated Al-Shabaab.

Reacting to the initial reporting, the X account Libs of TikTok had posted, “Let me get this straight.. Somalians in Minnesota inflated their autism rates to get more Medicaid funding which was then funneled to al-Qa’ida affiliate al-Shabaab, who are responsible for the most U.S. deaths than any other terror affiliate? How is this not the biggest story right now??!?!!”

Meanwhile, journalist Nick Sortor predicted that the president’s move would more than frustrate Somali-born Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D) as he wrote, “Ilhan Omar is going to lose her SH*T over this one. SEND THEM ALL BACK! NOW! Hundreds of THOUSANDS of them have taken over Minnesota, and have stolen hundreds of MILLIONS in U.S. tax dollars, funneling money to terrorist groups Al Shabaab back in Somalia.”

According to data from the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, little more than 700 Somalis in the entire United States are covered by TPS, with around 430 in Minnesota, as of 2023, who were granted extensions under then Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

With those figures in mind, Omar had posted to X, “I am a citizen and so are majority of Somalis in America. Good luck celebrating a policy change that really doesn’t have much impact on the Somalis you love to hate. We are here to stay.”

What the congresswoman neglected to consider in her reaction was the ongoing efforts of Operation Twin Shield conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, which have uncovered hundreds of separate cases of immigration fraud.

In addition to praise for the president’s response to the findings, there was little surprise regarding the alleged fraud, as Red State’s Bonchie had summarized, “Somalia is known for three things: War, Islamism, and piracy. What exactly did people think would happen after setting up a Somalian proxy state within Minnesota?”
