Trump unveils new $5 million ‘gold card’ for wealthy foreign investors: ‘Route to citizenship’

President Donald J. Trump said that a new “gold card” visa will soon be unveiled that would give wealthy foreign investors a “route to citizenship” for a hefty price, one more example of his innovative thinking.

The nation’s 47th president unveiled the outside-of-the-box solution while talking with reporters in the Oval Office where was joined by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Tuesday afternoon.

“We’re going to be selling a gold card,” Trump explained. “You have a green card. This is a gold card. We’re going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million and that’s going to give you green card privileges, plus it’s going to be a route to citizenship. And wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card.”

“They’ll be wealthy and they’ll be successful, and they’ll be spending a lot of money and paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people, and we think it’s going to be extremely successful,” Trump said.

The “gold card” would replace the existing EB-5 program which was created in 1990 to “stimulate the US economy through job creation and capital investment by foreign investors,” U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) states on its website.

Lutnick said that the EB-5 program is “full of nonsense, make-believe and fraud.”

“It was a way to get a green card that was low price,” the commerce secretary told reporters. “So the president said, rather than having this sort of ridiculous EB-5 program, we’re going to end the EB-5 program. We’re going to replace it with the Trump gold card.”

Trump’s idea to introduce the new “gold card” was praised by X users.

One reporter chasing social media clout invoked the newly resuscitated Russiagate zombie hoax with a “gotcha” question on whether the program could be used by Russian oligarchs to gain access to the U.S. system.

“Yeah, possibly,” Trump replied. “Hey, I know some Russian oligarchs that are very nice people.”

According to Fox Business, “More information about the ‘gold card’ is expected to come in the next few weeks. Other countries have similar visas: the United Kingdom offers a Tier 1 (Investor) visa, which allows a path to citizenship for foreign nationals willing to invest five to 10 million pounds.”
