Trump’s campaign kickoff had its moments

With stops in Salem, New Hampshire, and Columbia, South Carolina, it didn’t take much for former President Donald Trump to set corporate media on edge trying to pinpoint “vulnerabilities” and slamming his speeches as filled with “bizarre moments.”

The multiple Saturday stumps for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign kickoff pitted his record squarely against that of what Democrats have done since President Joe Biden as the current commander-in-chief has overseen record devastation with 40-year high inflation and millions of illegal border crossings in only two years’ time. Having spent considerable time and effort on national security, especially in the closing months of his administration when the construction of the border wall was progressing in earnest, the president highlighted that at his first stop in New Hampshire.

“They stopped the wall construction,” he said of the Democrat-controlled White House and Congress the past two years. “We built hundreds of miles of wall, but they stopped the construction. Three weeks, it could have been — the addition, because we added a lot more than we originally said we’re going to do.”

“We had to wait two and a half years because the Democrats sued us — we had 11 different lawsuits — we won all of the lawsuits. I actually got a lot of the money, I took it out of the military because I considered it to be defense of our country,” Trump continued, and added of the incoming caravans of aliens seeking entry into the United States, “It’s an onslaught what’s coming.”

Meanwhile, outlets like Mediaite and The Washington Post liberally applied Trump Derangement as the former described the campaign events as filled with “plenty of bizarre moments, strange claims, and everything in between,” and the latter projected perceived “vulnerabilities” and recapped the speeches by writing he “zigged and zagged through old talking points — ‘the fake news,’ his hatred of windmills, his favorable polling,” before acknowledging he did discuss plans for future policies.

When the former president made his South Carolina stop, he firmly drew the distinction between the people’s perspective and the media’s as he reminded what Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) had done during a joint session of Congress when then-President Barack Obama had spoken. Bringing up the infamous heckle by the lawmaker who shouted out “You Lie,” Trump said, “That voice was so beautiful as he called it out in Congress — Congressman Joe Wilson, I thought it was brilliant. See that was done from the heart…You took a little heat at the time. People love you for that because it showed love of your country.”

Instead of accepting that the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan came under Biden’s watch, the media chose to chide Trump for using the word “binoculars” when he appeared to mean night vision goggles. Talking about the Taliban, he said “they never fight at night because they don’t have binoculars. We have given them brand new thousands of binoculars,” he said of the equipment left behind, “better than what we have, far better than what we have.”

He also reminded that while he was in the White House, Russia did not attack Ukraine and, having offered to negotiate an end to the conflict early on, Trump held to his position that he “could solve that in 24 hours.”

Despite the protestations from corporate media, Trump’s supporters see clearly the difference in leadership as one Nick Blanchard, 33, who attended the New Hampshire event told The Washington Post, “People are waking up; people are realizing how their life was two years ago compared to now.”

Blanchard added, “I believe he will be our 47th president.”

Speaking for himself, Trump set his accomplishments against what has happened in two short years and said, “And we did all of those things and then they come in and what they’ve done to this country is incredible.”
