Turns out, border czar Kamala Harris was recently in Texas … to talk about abortion

Vice President Kamala Harris was tasked with discovering the root causes of the invasion of illegal immigrants along the southern border with Mexico in March 2021 and the problem is worse today than at any time in U.S. history, yet the vice president dedicates little effort to her assignment.

Nearly two million illegal immigrants crossed into the U.S. last year, according to Border Patrol statistics, and the numbers in 2022 are on pace to top 3 million, and this does not include the hundreds of thousands of migrants known as got-aways who entered the country undetected. This is nearly half the population of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants already here — some experts put that number as high as 30 million.

President Biden tapped Harris “to lead the White House effort to tackle the migration challenge at the U.S. southern border and work with Central American nations to address root causes of the problem,” according to the Associated Press.

“Harris is tasked with overseeing diplomatic efforts to deal with issues spurring migration in the Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, as well as pressing them to strengthen enforcement on their own borders, administration officials said,” the news agency reported at the time. “She’s also tasked with developing and implementing a long-term strategy that gets at the root causes of migration from those countries.”

“Needless to say, the work will not be easy,” Harris said of the challenge. “But it is important work.”

Work that doesn’t appear to be getting done.

Vice President Harris was in Austin, Texas last week, her second trip in 30 days, and spoke about abortion, but as Fox News reported in the clip below she didn’t offer any information about the border:

Harris “has spent only three days in Central America during the two brief trips since she was assigned the mission of addressing the ‘root cause’ of mass migration,” the network reported, adding that she has taken two brief trips to Latin America in her nearly two years in office, with the last visit being in June.

She has spoken about “progress” being made, in spite of the reality on the ground.

More from Fox News:

The Summit of the Americas, where Latin American countries gather to discuss diplomacy, took place in the U.S. this year for the first time since 1994. The conference featured a speech from Harris, who criticized the prevalence of corruption in the region and declared the Biden administration is “making progress” on addressing the root cause of the border crisis.

Harris met with three leaders of Latin American countries in her two trips: the presidents of Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras, which have three of the top four most migrants who flee to the U.S. border. But all three of these leaders later boycotted the summit after the State Department announced it would not invite the undemocratically elected leaders of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

For what it’s worth, first lady Jill Biden has spent twice the time in Central America than her husband’s border czar, making a 6 day trip in May that focused on building alliances with countries in the region.
