As the Florida gubernatorial race heats up, Byron Donalds received backing from a coalition of local rabbis.
The letter, signed by 40 Florida rabbis, praises the state as one of the few where Jewish families can live without “constant fear” of violence and calls Donalds an “unwavering friend” of the community.
“We write to you in our individual capacities as Rabbis from 17 different cities and 7 counties to express our strong support for your candidacy to become the 47th Governor of the State of Florida,” they state. “Florida has become a place where Jewish families can build their lives, practice their faith, educate their children, and raise the next generation with confidence and without living in constant fear. This is nothing we can take for granted.”
They also pointed out that he flatly condemned antisemitism and said it “will never be tolerated on college campuses” during a Delray Beach town hall.
“In addition, you have been an unwavering friend to the Jewish community and the State of Israel. In 2021, as Israel defended itself against Hamas rocket attacks, you stood in support of our closest ally in the Middle East while condemning antisemitic attacks against American Jews. Recently, you sent a strong statement to the Jewish community by saying this on the third anniversary of the October 7th attacks: ‘Florida will ALWAYS stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters’,” the letter continues.
3 years ago on this solemn day, Hamas terrorists unleashed an barbaric, cruel, and cowardly attack on Israel. More than 1,200 Israelis — most of them civilians — were murdered simply for being Jewish, shattering families across the country. Hamas’s depraved violence shocked the world and reminded all that rank antisemitism is an ever-present threat that our Jewish friends live with.
Today I was blessed to visit the Shul of Bal Harbour in Surfside to meet with survivors, families, and soldiers impacted by October 7th. Florida will ALWAYS stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters.

“We believe Florida must remain a state where Jewish life flourishes, antisemitism is confronted, our communities are protected, and parents have meaningful choices in educating their children. We look forward to working with you to keep Florida strong, safe, and welcoming for generations to come,” the letter concludes.
Donalds campaign surrogate Bryan E. Leib pointed out how big of a deal it is to get this kind of support.
“It’s hard to get two rabbis to agree on anything, and 40 of them just agreed on Byron Donalds,” he said.
Lisa Spies, the Donalds campaign’s director of Jewish outreach, also praised the endorsement.
“These are some of the most respected rabbinic leaders in Florida, and they came together because they know what’s at stake. Byron Donalds has stood with the Jewish community and with Israel when it mattered most. Florida’s Jewish community is proud to stand with him,” she said.
