Alleged government overreach at an X office found Elon Musk slamming the European nation responsible for a “political attack” as his presence was also requested to answer questions.
Ever the free speech absolutist, the world’s richest man’s promotion of that ideal through social media has readily demonstrated how nations outside the United States routinely curb God-given rights. Having previously run afoul of Brazil and the European Union writ large, Musk and X alike slammed French prosecutors after the Paris office was raided in an alleged attempt to “exert pressure.”
As had been reported, purported concerns over image generation and distribution, especially of sexual content, were used to justify the raid of X’s Paris offices early Tuesday. In response, Musk asserted, “This is a political attack.”
His post was a reaction to a statement from X’s Global Government Affairs account which stated in part, “The Paris Public Prosecutor’s office widely publicized the raid–making clear that today’s action was an abusive act of law enforcement theater designed to achieve illegitimate political objectives rather than advance legitimate law enforcement goals rooted in the fair and impartial administration of justice.”

Accusing the office of “attempting to exert pressure” on senior management in America, the account continued, “The Prosecutor’s Office has ignored the established procedural mechanisms to obtain evidence in compliance with international treaties and X’s rights to defend itself. These procedural mechanisms are well known and used on a daily basis by judicial authorities around the world.”
“The allegations underlying today’s raid are baseless, and X categorically denies any wrongdoing,” added the team. “Today’s staged raid reinforces our conviction that this investigation distorts French law, circumvents due process, and endangers free speech. X is committed to defending its fundamental rights and the rights of its users. We will not be intimidated by the actions of French judicial authorities today.”
In addition to the raid, both Musk and Linda Yaccarino were issued voluntary summons to appear and answer questions the week of April 20. The former X CEO shared her own offense as she asserted prosecutors had a “political vendetta.”
“This is an outrageous example of another EU proxy campaign to pressure @elonmusk and X. French prosecutors are distorting French law in order to restrict free speech and carry out a political vendetta against Americans. To be clear: they are lying,” contended Yaccarino. “While I’m no longer at X, I stand by X’s mission. More than ever.”

The prosecutors, who indicated they would no longer use X to share statements, insisted, “The voluntary interviews with the managers should enable them to explain their position on the facts and, where applicable, the compliance measures envisaged.”
Meanwhile, Musk also reacted to a post from Tommy Robinson where the journalist emphasized a Daily Mail report on charges brought against 10 men who’d allegedly raped a five-year-old boy in France. Robinson said, “If ever there was a reason to reintroduce the guillotine, this is it!” to which the tech entrepreneur added, “This is what authorities in France should be focused on.”

The latest international trouble for the social media platform comes nearly a year and a half after X was reinstated in Brazil following a ban that accompanied threats from the country’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes to arrest its legal representative.
Additionally, regulators of the EU fined X about $140 million for allegedly misleading users regarding the paid verification system and for breaching content rules regarding so-called disinformation.
Musk has also gone on record slamming the censorship in Britain, even arguing in favor of the United States taking action to “liberate the people of Britain from their tyrannical government.”
