Vivek Ramaswamy’s exit from the Department of Government Accountability didn’t mark the end of his work making America great again.
Ramaswamy announced his 2026 run for governor in Ohio on Monday with an epic speech that has had several viral moments. In several clips being passed around on X, Ramaswamy vowed to end the “war on work” and bring back “psychiatric institutions.”
Watch:
Vivek just dropped a NUKE: “We’re going to end the war on work in America, starting right here in Ohio, by reattaching work requirements to Medicaid and welfare to address the worker shortage in this state.”
“It’s not compassion to make somebody more dependent on the government.… pic.twitter.com/jUel2q64Nq

“We’re going to end the war on work in America, starting right here in Ohio, by reattaching work requirements to Medicaid and welfare to address the worker shortage in this state,” he said.”It’s not compassion to make somebody more dependent on the government. The compassionate thing to do is to help them achieve their independence from it.”
HOLY MOLY! Vivek just said he wants to bring back insane asylums to Ohio as governor.
“We are going to bring back the psychiatric institutions that were wrongfully shuttered. This is a touchy subject, but I’m going to go there. I’m going to go there because it’s the right place… pic.twitter.com/DZBA63vdow

“We need to end the wave of violent crime in our cities by empowering police officers to do their jobs with the proper training needed to do it well, while respecting our Second Amendment right which shall not be infringed,” he said to cheers. “This also means we are going to bring back the psychiatric institutions that were wrongfully shuttered. This is a touchy subject, but I’m going to go there. I’m going to go there because it’s the right place to go. It’s important. Our jails can no longer be the first line of psychiatric care in this state. That is not compassion. That is cruelty to everyone involved. And we’re going to put an end to it.”
X users celebrated his platform:
This should not be too much to ask. Permanent dependence helps no one. Reagan did some of this for a time. Don’t know when it ended.

We closed the doors and now these people are on our streets. We have nursing homes, we have homes with special needs adults, we have to take care of the mentally ill. Leaving them on our streets is not humane

Please.
People are suffering.
Hospitals are humane.
Some for adults and others for younger folks.
Both are needed.— LLV808 (@leeleevee808) February 25, 2025
This is a rock star move. Finally some practical thinking in a politician.

Prisons are not equipped to deal with the mentally ill. If a person is s danger to themselves and others due to mental illness they need specific care beyond basic imprisonment. Good for Vivek. This needs to be addressed.
