Washington Post propagandists are begging billionaire owner Jeff Bezos to save their jobs amid reports of deep cuts at the once prestigious newspaper that has squandered its hard-earned credibility.
Over the weekend, Dylan Byers of Puck News reported that “massive layoffs” were coming to WaPo, with inside rumors saying that “the sports desk could be shuttered entirely… foreign desk will be hit hard too.”
“Expectation is that *hundreds* will be affected. Washington Post front office not commenting,” Byers added.
Update: Expectation is that *hundreds* will be affected. Washington Post front office not commenting.

The news set off panic at the formerly respectable news organization, with the hashtag #SavethePost popping up on X and several “reporters” seeking to publicly shame the Amazon founder to reconsider swinging the ax by taking to social media to make their case why their jobs are of great importance.

Today a source warned me that my reporting lines could have me killed. Just an average day as a foreign correspondent. I can’t count the number of times I’ve come under fire or had windows rattle from blasts. Our international staff risk so much to bring home news. #SaveThePost pic.twitter.com/FvnLEhEoiQ

Soon-to-be-unemployed staffers have also reportedly reached out to Hollywood for help with media gossipmonger Oliver Darcy reporting on the effort to recruit Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep to lobby Bezos. The duo starred in the 2017 film “The Post,” which came out at the time the paper unveiled its ridiculous slogan “Democracy dies in darkness” that coincided with the beginning of President Donald J. Trump’s first term.
According to the former CNN dweeb, WaPo staffers “are doing everything they can to get Bezos’ attention and persuade him to deploy his vast resources to avert the coming newsroom amputation,” and “have been brainstorming for days about how to break through to the distracted owner,” with the idea to appeal to the Amazon king’s trophy wife Lauren Sánchez and the Hollywood heavy hitters.
“Ideas have ranged from direct appeals to reaching out to high-profile allies of The Post, including Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep, who portrayed Post legends Ben Bradlee and Katharine Graham in the 2017 film ‘The Post.’ Hanks, notably, also previously recorded a Super Bowl advertisement for the newspaper,” Darcy reported.
It’s not clear whether there was any official outreach to Hanks or Streep, but on Monday evening, the Guild urged staffers to not only publicly tag Bezos in pleas for intervention, but also to tag Sanchez—seemingly the first time staffers have sought to appeal to the former journalist in a formal campaign. “If you’re comfortable, please tag Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez, sources with large followings—anyone who might be able to amplify our message and make sure it reaches those who need to hear it,” he wrote, citing an email obtained by his blog Status.
Bezos has been slammed by critics for his attempts to restore balance to the paper, incurring the wrath of employees when he put the kibosh on the WaPo’s planned endorsement of failed Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris in 2024.
