The unexpected turn of events in New York City where the grand jury investigating former President Donald J. Trump was inexplicably canceled for two days in a row this week may have some leftists wondering whether it is just another false alarm that the walls are closing in on their hated enemy.
With Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s trumped-up case against the 2024 Republican Party frontrunner over an alleged “hush money” payment to pornographic movie star Stormy Daniels suddenly in limbo amid rumors of problems with the case, John Dean, another one of of the Watergate veterans who have parlayed their roles in the takedown of Richard M. Nixon, sought to bolster the spirits of the faithful.

Dean appeared on Friday’s edition of “CNN Newsroom” where he speculated that the bizarre delay may be, in fact, one of strategic nature and that Bragg has been asked to take a back seat to allow another prong of the current witch hunt to go forward first.
“The on and off nature of the Manhattan grand jury doesn’t to me suggest that the DA, Bragg, has suddenly discovered he’s got a weak case,” he told CNN anchor John Berman who asked for his “expert’ legal opinion on the snail-like pace of the hearings.
“I think he’s got a grand jury who might not want more witnesses, and you know, there’s a remote possibility, John, that some other prosecutor contacted him and said ‘do you really have to go first?’” Dean theorized. “He knows his isn’t the strongest, most presidential-type case that is going to be presented against Trump. And he might have been asked to delay, and drag his feet a little while because some of these other cases might be ripe for action.”
“I don’t know that as a fact. It just occurred to me the way this grand jury has been on-again, off-again,” he added, admitting that he has no actual information to back up the theory. “And prosecutors do have that kind of…he wouldn’t have to if he didn’t want to, but they do have those kind of off-the-record conversations. I know a lot of former prosecutors. So the grand jury is plowing ahead and they, I think, they will probably take some action next week one way or the other.”
The octogenarian gadfly also seemed to encourage the idea that Trump should be muzzled by a judge with a gag order to silence his criticism of Bragg and defend himself in the face of the malicious prosecution of the George Soros-backed DA.
“The former president overnight, issuing what seemed to be some veiled threats against Alvin Bragg, in a way saying that there will be death and destruction if Bragg presses charges, um, what kind of situation do you think that creates?” Berman asked.
“I think it creates a very troubling situation for Mr. Trump when he goes in if he is arraigned, and the judge is going to be made very aware of these statements, ah, recall that Roger Stone, the acolyte of Mr. Trump was indicted and started putting the judge in crosshairs at one point on his line… on his online postings,” Dean responded.
“This could be the same sort of thing where a judge has total power to say ‘hey listen, no more of that, you do that, you’re in contempt of court,” he continued. “They could shut down with a gag order, Trump and stop this nonsense and these attacks and might well do so…”
Like fellow Watergate fossils Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, Dean has been a fixture on cable news during the entirety of the corrupt establishment’s operation to take down Trump, with constant comparisons to the nearly 50-year-old scandal that chased Nixon from the White House less than two years after he was reelected by voters in what was at the time, the greatest electoral margin in the nation’s history.
Unlike Trump’s ongoing travails, the walls really WERE closing in on the nation’s 37th president and were if not for Dean, who served as White House counsel under Nixon and then squealed like a rat after he was fired, the blueprint for taking down a Republican president wouldn’t exist.
While Watergate may have given today’s Democrats and their winged monkeys in the media a script to use against Trump, it has yet to be successful unless success is measured in terms of letting those who cut their political teeth during the era – including many of the party’s senior lawmakers – sip from the fountain of youth, which has been little more than a poisoned chalice filled with an intoxicating brew of their destructive obsession.
Dean’s theory would certainly be a convenient climbdown for Bragg whose case now looks like less of the slam dunk that many in the media had predicted, and each passing day sees him losing ground in terms of credibility.
