Fox News host Jesse Watters pressed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about his tense White House exchange with Elon Musk.
In May, The Atlantic reported on the alleged profane exchange where Bessent was screaming at Musk “loud enough for Donald Trump to hear and in a language that he could certainly understand.”
“Bessent and Musk were fighting over which of them should choose the next IRS leader—and, implicitly, over Musk’s bureaucracy-be-damned crusade. Without securing the Treasury chief’s sign-off, Musk had pushed through his own pick for the job. Bessent was, quite obviously, not having it,” the piece explained.
But Watters wanted Bessent to explain exactly what went down that day, without the sensationalist spin some outlets put on such dust-ups.
Watch:
“All right, and if things don’t work out, you can always give people a little elbow. You have a big reputation. I mean, you walk around the White House and everybody moves back. What, you got into a beef with Musk? What’d you do to him?” Watters joked. “What’d you do to Elon?”
“Elon and I are both very passionate. I think that what he did with DOGE has set a very good trend in terms of cutting government expenses, that we were able to–” Bessent explained before Watters cut back in.
“You didn’t grab Elon by the collar, did you? You would never do such a thing? The Secretary of Treasury!” the host exclaimed.
“Elon wears t-shirts, so there is no collar,” the secretary chuckled.
This is not the first time Bessent has reportedly exploded on a Trump administration official.
As BizPac Review previously reported, the Treasury Secretary got into it with Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte during a “much-anticipated inaugural dinner at Executive Branch.” Bessent accused Pulte of badmouthing him to President Donald Trump.
“Why the f**k are you talking to the president about me? F**k you. I’m gonna punch you in your f**king face,” Politico quoted the secretary as saying.
Pulte reportedly appeared stunned at the sudden and profane outburst. Bessent confronted financier Omeed Malik, who co-owns the club where the event was taking place.
“It’s either me or him,” Bessent said. “You tell me who’s getting the f**k out of here.”
The alternative, the secretary said, was for the pair to “go outside.”
“I’m going to fu**ing beat your ass,” Bessent warned.
While the two were separated and the remainder of the event went smoothly, it appears that the Treasury Secretary has no problem speaking his mind to anyone.
