President Donald Trump didn’t waste time pretending he had anything nice to say to CNN’s Kristen Holmes.
Speaking to reporters before jetting off to Grand Island, Nebraska, for a rally, Trump reacted to the senior White House correspondent pressing him about his approval rating among Latinos. He refused to play along, tossing some choice insults her way before moving on.

“Your approval ratings with Latino voters have dropped down to 27%,” Holmes told the president.
“Oh, I’m doing great. No, no,” he responded. “You’re fake news! You’re CNN. You’re fake news. My poll numbers are great, and all you have to do is look at the crowds we’re drawing, and every time I leave — that candidate will be losing — and by the time I leave, they’re winning. No, CNN poll numbers are fake, and your whole outfit is fake, and so are you.”
The poll in question was conducted by NBC News/Telemundo, which was framed as Latinos “turning on” the president and giving Democrats an opportunity to pick up some votes ahead of the midterms.
“Like the broader electorate, Latino voters are racked by major concerns about high prices and Trump’s approach to immigration enforcement. The president’s approval rating sits at 27% among Latino voters. Two-thirds say his administration’s deportation policies have gone too far and three-quarters disapprove of how he has handled the economy and the cost of living,” the outlet reported.
“A greater share of Latino voters hold negative views of the Republican Party than at any time since 2016, and Democrats have leads on issues like dealing with the economy, immigration, the cost of living, corruption and healthcare. Two years ago, Latino voters gave Trump a 4-point edge over then-Vice President Kamala Harris on handling the economy. Today, they give Democrats a 21-point advantage on the same question,” the article continued.
Democratic pollster Aileen Cardona-Arroyo of Hart Research Associates cautions against leftists celebrating increased support among Latinos, however. She argues that they are siding with Dems out of opposition to Trump rather than alignment with the party’s platform, which puts them in a precarious position beyond midterms.
“Despite a more favorable environment for Democrats, any Democratic gains this November will be driven largely more by opposition to Trump and the economic environment than by support for Democrats,” she said.
