Now that Texas has officially turned blue, local Democrat politicians aren’t wasting any time in mounting a major unified resistance to the enforcement of federal illegal immigration law.
Just days after the blue tsunami washed away Republican control of both houses of Congress and key governorships, Houston Mayor John Whitmire signed an executive order changing how the Houston Police Department (HPD) cooperates with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), an agency that has been incessantly demonized by Democrats who are determined to dismantle it.
I have signed an executive order directing HPD to no longer contact ICE for nonviolent offences, helping reduce fear in our communities. Thank you to Chief Diaz, our state and local leaders for their collaboration. A step toward building a stronger Houston. Let’s Go to Work. https://t.co/r5jshAdqWS

“I have signed an executive order directing HPD to no longer contact ICE for nonviolent offenses, helping reduce fear in our communities. Thank you to Chief Diaz, our state and local leaders for their collaboration. A step toward building a stronger Houston. Let’s Go to Work,” Whitmire said in a Friday statement.
The Democrat leader described his order as being necessary to “begin a healing process”
“I do this to begin a healing process…” Houston Mayor @whitmire_john takes executive action rolling back @houstonpolice cooperation with @ICEgov.
Under his new executive order, an administrative immigration warrant alone will no longer trigger a call to ICE during routine encounters that don’t result in an arrest.
Officers will contact ICE when someone is arrested for a jailable offense AND has an administrative immigration warrant.
Late last month, we were alongside @EROHouston officers who said the state and local partnerships are essential in conducting enforcement operations across the city.
The reversal follows months of criticism and comes just days after Democrats swept Texas’ statewide offices.

“If they’re charged with a new crime, we’ll let ICE know as we get them to the jailhouse,” Whitmire told The New York Times. “We just are not going to deal with the nonviolent contacts.”
As bad as Tuesday’s midterm thrashing was for the GOP, the part that’s especially painful is the loss of the Lone Star State to the Democrats after the left-wing party recaptured a Senate seat for the first time in more than three decades and booted incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott from the governor’s mansion.
“The governor was requiring us to contact ICE,” the mayor said of Abbott, who was soundly beaten by Democrat Gina Hinojosa in one of the nation’s most shocking results. “It created a lot of anxiety” among Houston residents.
The mayor said that the change was “certainly consistent with the new leadership in Austin,” the Texas state capital.
“We won’t have new leadership until January,” Whitmire told the Times. “But I’m willing to make a responsible decision that in the next two months we’re going to go to a more effective policy.”
The Democrats are finally sipping from their Holy Grail of a blue Texas; they need illegal aliens to help them keep it filled.
