Dem state rep arrested day after reelection — accused of threatening to kill someone

A Missouri state representative allegedly threatened to kill someone a mere one day after winning reelection.

Missouri State Representative Anthony Ealy, Jr. was arrested on Wednesday after police said he threatened the life of someone outside a funeral home while a family was making arrangements for a deceased loved one.

Law enforcement was called to the “chaotic” scene on East Capitol Avenue, where Ealy was reportedly yelling and causing disruption outside of the business. When a victim tried to approach him and de-escalate, Ealy allegedly began hurling violent threats, Fox4KC reported, citing a probable cause statement.

“I’m going to kill you. Call the police; I’m going to kill you,” he allegedly shouted, lunging toward the victim. At some point, he also reportedly referenced a firearm, which he denied after being Mirandized.

He was taken into custody at his home following the incident and is being held without bond at the Cole County Jail.

“According to the chief of staff for House Democratic minority leader Ashley Aune, Rep. Ealy was removed from all committee assignments last spring so he could focus on personal matters he was addressing. Ealy was apparently asked to consider not running for reelection,” Fox4KC noted.
