Biden admin won’t say if ‘non-binary’ official arrested for theft is still on taxpayer-funded payroll

The Biden administration refused to say whether the disgraced “non-binary” official overseeing nuclear waste policy is still being paid after being charged with theft.

Samuel Brinton, a flamboyant LGBTQ advocate who was named deputy assistant secretary for spent fuel and waste disposition over the summer, was caught on video allegedly stealing luggage from an airport baggage carousel at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport two months ago.

He was placed on leave after being charged with theft of the suitcase valued at $2,325, but the Dept. of Energy has yet to say whether Brinton is still on its payroll, Fox News Digital reported.

A DOE spokesperson told Fox News Digital in a statement: “Sam Brinton is on leave from DOE, and Dr. Kim Petry is performing the duties of Deputy Assistant Secretary of Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition.”

Brinton, who boasted about being “the first openly genderfluid person in this type of government service,” allegedly took the luggage after traveling from Washington, D.C., on Sept. 16, according to a criminal complaint filed in Minnesota state court. When contacted by police, he confirmed that he had the bag while denying any wrongdoing.

“If I had taken the wrong bag, I am happy to return it, but I don’t have any clothes for another individual,” he told the officer. “That was my clothes when I opened the bag.”

Two hours later, Brinton would apologize to the officer for not being “completely honest,” claiming he took the bag due to tiredness. However, as noted by Fox News, he was seen using the bag on two other trips to the airport.

Charged with felony theft of a movable property without consent, Brinton is due in court on Dec. 19 and faces five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo), ranking member of the Senate Committee on Energy, has called for Brinton to be fired in a letter to Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm.

“Dear Secretary Granholm,” the letter begins, “I write to you with serious concerns regarding felony theft charges brought against the Department of Energy’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition, Sam Brinton.”

“It is in the interest of both the Department’s mission and our national security that the Deputy Assistant Secretary’s clearance be immediately revoked,” Barrasso continued. “Additionally, the Department should undertake all necessary steps to terminate their employment immediately.”
