Late-night comedian Bill Maher is calling out Jimmy Kimmel for not acknowledging his support following the latter’s brief suspension.
Maher, who knows a little something about being a left-leaning, late-night show host, voiced his support for Kimmel after insensitive comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s assassination got his show yanked from the air. Now, the HBO host is miffed that his support was not addressed, despite Kimmel thanking others for having his back during that time.
He spoke about the apparent snub during his most recent ‘Club Random’ podcast with guest Michael Rapaport:

“I was forthright on my show about supporting Jimmy. Also, saying I didn’t agree with what he said because it was just wrong. I was very adamant that he has the right to be wrong,” Maher explained after Rapaport asked for his opinion, “now that the dust has cleared.”
“Two points I wanted to make. One, he wasn’t attacking Charlie Kirk. There was no insult of Charlie Kirk, which is what they were all riled up about. He was saying, the guy who shot him was probably on your team, MAGA. I said, that’s bullshit,” he continued. “I did a whole editorial that most of the killers of the recent variety, you go through their manifestos, it’s not even about politics. They’re nihilists; they don’t believe in anything. They could be- look, was he probably rebelling against his MAGA family? Probably, that’s more likely. So what Jimmy said was just not, to me, tracking accurately.”
“Look, Jimmy apparently doesn’t like me too much anymore because he thanked everybody but me. And I was adamant, adamant, about supporting him that week and the next week. Like I said, I can’t lie and think what he said was accurate, but I was adamant that he shouldn’t be thrown off the air; he did a great show, I went on and on, okay. My problem with him and hosts like that, quite frankly, they’re all quite similar in this regard, is that they’re ideologically captured by one side,” he noted, adding that “there’s a reason why half the country feels insulted by them and has turned off to them. Because it’s just one very predictable point of view, and this proves that it’s often not completely accurate, because that was really not a smart thing to say, that this guy who shot Charlie Kirk was on the MAGA team. That’s just something that the BlueSky crowd told themselves, and if you’re that far in the bubble, where you don’t really see both sides, you’re going to believe that BlueSky point of view.”
Rapaport, who was a prolific Trump hater himself until recently, agreed with Maher. He noted that it takes a “sick person” to make light of such a public, tragic event so soon.
